So Weep As Well For Gladness As For Pain》影像放映會 Film Screening
DESCRIPTION:2024年末，在牯嶺街小劇場 \n林靖雁帶著一個人的身體 \n演出了無數人的記憶 \n  \n《時間就像是從來沒消逝過》 \n是一場獨角戲，也是一場召喚 \n是介於現實與幻覺之間的自白 \n是在創傷邊緣摸索自我的凝視 \n有些事我們以為被時間帶走了 \n其實只是被藏起來 \n等著你有一天回頭 \n現在，那些瞬間將再次被打開 \nLate 2024\, at Guling Street Avant-Garde TheatreLin Jing-Yan\, with a single body\,Performed the memories of countless others. \n“So Weep As Well For Gladness As For Pain”is a monologue\, but also a summoning—a confession that drifts between reality and hallucination\,a gaze exploring the self on the edge of trauma. \nSome things we thought time had taken away\,were simply hidden\,waiting for the moment we turn back.Now\, those moments will be opened once again. \nThis work takes inspiration from the structure of One Thousand and One Nights to metaphorize the human struggle within time—a vital structure\, as storytelling itself becomes a means of survival. \nTelling stories delays death. This setup is deeply personal for the creator—to create\, to keep speaking\,as though these are the only ways to remain alive. \nWithin the fragile confessions lies a fierce will.Using a solo performer as the frame\,the piece skillfully weaves live performance with multimedia narrative across different angles and timelines. It dissects and sutures existential anguish in a near-pathological manner\,and stretches the limits of emotional expression. \nBlending raw personal experience with theatrical form\,the piece constructs a spacewhere the audience is invited to dwell with the performer in a time that can no longer move forward. At the heart of the work lies a question: \n“When it feels like everything has passed\, but you’re still stuck—what now?”At that moment\, we all await a decision—to leave\, or to stay? \nThis solo performance is a self-expression by a person with dissociative disorder\, revealing physical and mental suffering with raw confessions and unrelenting repetition. It expresses a powerful desire to exist and reveals the meta-nature of performance itself. The work is highly embodied\, and confronts the ethical aesthetics between the display of illness and the gaze of the viewer. \nThrough the integration of directing\, writing\, and performing\, Lin Jing-Yan deeply explores the blurred boundaries between life and theatre.Within fragile honesty lies resolute will.Through multi-perspective live and video narratives\,the work anatomizes and reassembles the pain of existence with clinical precision. The performance is precise and well-paced.The space and visual design amplify the inner psychological tension. \nBy focusing on the creator’s personal experiences with illness\, the work also reflects contemporary alienation\, sparking empathy and reflection.A successful solo piece made powerful through collaboration. \nIn this solo performance\, the actor draws from personal experience with illness\, merging real-time performance with symptoms of the disorder. Real-life intrusions such as late arrivals or food deliveries are incorporated into the stage as “outsiders.” \nTechniques such as on-site murmuring\, dance\, object work\, projection\, and live camera performance highlight the precision and intentionality of the script structure. This series of solo performances uses mental illness as its central theme\, exploring the ethics of theatrical creation and spectatorship. With compelling audiovisual design\, the viewing experience remains fluid\, and collaborative elements add a layer of lightness and transparency to the work. \nAt the end\, the performer remains seated in darkness\, silently exchanging gazes with each departing audience member—a moment of infinite confrontation\, and wordless reckoning. \n報名 To apply：https://www.accupass.com/eflow/ticket/2507111107266470433600?utm_campaign=accu_theme&utm_medium=home_north&utm_source=Web \n影像放映會錄影為首場演出內容（華語發音、中文字幕） \n影片時間約80分鐘 \nThis film screening presents a recording of the premiere performance.Language: Mandarin\, with Traditional Chinese subtitlesDuration: Approx. 80 minutes

For three years\, artists received minimal support\, and the cultural industry fell into an unprecedented crisis. This hardship echoes the time of Black Death in Europe\, when society neared collapse and people turned to “masks” as a way to cope with plague and the anxiety of survival. \nIt was in this context that the Taiwan Mask Festival was born.Through the symbol of the mask\, Guang Lian Theatre seeks to rediscover the meaning of life and connect cultural spirits of the past\, present and future. \n戴上面具，也許我們才能更真實地看見自己 \nA mask is not just a cover—it is also a revelation. \nThroughout human history\, masks have never been mere decoration—they are vessels to the spiritual world. From ancient shamans’ rituals and religious ceremonies to theater and folk culture\, masks have always held a sacred and irreplaceable role. They symbolize identity and offer protection and empowerment to the wearer. \nIn modern society\, while masks may seem distant from our daily lives\, they are\, in fact\, deeply embedded in our existence. \nFrom professional roles to social class\, we constantly shift between identities. Whether as a father\, a teacher\, an artist or even a digital persona on social media—each is like a mask we wear\, navigating between reality and the virtual. But as we become accustomed to wearing these masks\, do we also start to fear the true “self”? \nThe mask is both a shield and a path of discovery. \nIn the performing arts\, masks help performers enter character swiftly\, overcome inner barriers and express themselves more freely. On a psychological level\, masks serve as tools that allow people to uncover aspects of themselves they were previously unaware of\, sometimes even facilitating healing and reconnecting with their inner worlds. \nWe are stepping into an era where the virtual and the real intertwine. \nDigital identities in the metaverse and curated images on social media are today’s “masks”. As we shape ourselves through technology\, can we still truly know who we are? \nThe creation of Taiwan Mask Festival is not only a tribute to traditional culture—it is also a question posed to the future world. \nThrough this artistic celebration\, we hope to inspire people to reconsider the meaning of “masks”. They are not merely relics of the past but vital keys to self-exploration in the future. \nBy putting on a mask\, perhaps we can finally see ourselves more clearly.
