\n• Gallery B｜還。 \n• Gallery C｜還。 \n• Gallery D｜還。 \nExhibition Origin \nSince the first exhibition “Archimeeting U” in 2008\, the Tainan City Architects Association has been dedicated to connecting architects across generations through exhibitions and forums\, exploring the relationship between architecture and everyday life. Over the years\, each edition of the triennial has deepened its thematic focus—ranging from spatial narratives to urban memory—gradually expanding into international dialogues. In 2024\, we partnered with Sendai\, Japan\, to initiate Taiwan-Japan architectural exchanges\, laying the groundwork for a broader curatorial vision for 2025 Triennial. Returning once again to Tainan Art Museum\, this exhibition embarks on a journey of architectural thought and sensory experience. \nCuratorial Theme: Re-turning to the Origin of Architecture \n“Re-turning ‘Home’” is not merely about returning—it is a reexamination\, a reinterpretation of “home”\, “origin” and “intention”. Borrowing the metaphor of the “Home” key on a keyboard\, the theme emphasizes how people seek belonging and orientation within space and time. For architecture\, the “origin” is the starting point for layout and positioning\, as well as the foundation of design intention and core values. \nExhibition Structure: Four Points of “Return” \nThis exhibition unfolds through four interwoven gallery spaces\, guiding visitors on a journey back to architecture’s origin: \n• Gallery A | Re-turning 「Home」: \nStarting with the notion of “home”\, this section explores how architectural language responds to emotional connections and the sense of belonging within a dwelling. \n• Gallery B | Re-turning 「Originality 」: \nReveals how architects revisit and refine their original intentions throughout the design process. \n• Gallery C | Re-turning 「Hometown」: \nInvestigates architectural connections between place and future through the historical context of Tainan. \n• Gallery D | Re-turning 「Domain 」 : \nInvites international architectural dialogues to co-create diverse points of cultural resonance. \nEach gallery is a reflection on the essence of architecture and a deeper inquiry into the relationship between people and space—from the personal to the urban\, from the local to the global—rethinking how architecture continues to define our way “home”.

IEAGD lnternational Exhibition of Architecture Graduation Design: MCU Architecture Student Hsu Ju-Hsin Selected to Exhibit
\nOn June 23\, Chinese Institute of Urban Design announced the list of Taiwanese student participants for 14th IEAGD lnternational Exhibition of Architecture Graduation Design (2025). MCU Department of Architecture graduate Hsu Ju-Hsin was selected for her project “Traces of Temperature”\, which earned a spot in the “Taiwan 20” list. Her work will represent Taiwan alongside top architecture students from Japan\, Hong Kong\, Singapore\, and other regions at the international exhibition and critique event held August 1–17 at Underground Experimental Field of Taipei National University of Arts. \nHsu Ju-Hsin’s graduation project\, “Traces of Temperature”\, was guided by Professor Chen Wei-Ning and takes Beitou Park as its base. It explores the relationship between sulfur\, vegetation\, climate\, architecture\, and humans. Her project was favored by one of the six curators\, architect Chou Shu-Hsien\, principal of Chou Shu-Hsien Architects\, and was ultimately selected as part of the “Taiwan 20”. \nThrough close observation of daily life\, Hsu discovered that architecture is not merely a vessel for activities\, but also a potential medium that indirectly connects nature and people\, or events and people. She transformed this idea of indirectness into a behavioral concept: “measuring”. This is not the precision of instruments quantifying data\, but rather a sensory process of perceiving\, recording\, and becoming aware of natural changes through the body\, materials and space. \nIn spatial terms\, such behavior can manifest through changes in materials\, perception of air temperature and humidity\, the spread of vegetation\, and tactile bodily experiences. Hsu believes architecture can serve as a medium for measuring the flows of nature\, the marks of time\, and the relationships between people and their environment. Through design techniques\, she gives form to these subtle traces and changes\, enabling users to perceive the presence and transformation of their surroundings—and reminding us of the need to maintain a balanced and responsive relationship between the natural and the man-made. \nLaunched in 2012\, the IEAGD lnternational Exhibition of Architecture Graduation Design is a pioneering cross-border platform for architectural graduation work. It promotes international exchange and enhances the depth and global perspective of Taiwan’s architectural education. This year\, six curators reviewed graduation projects from architecture departments nationwide and selected only 20 entries. These works will represent Taiwan and engage in international dialogue with students from Japan\, Hong Kong and Singapore in the exhibition and series of critique sessions held from August 1 to 17.

SUMMARY:有河之靈The Spirit of Water｜臺灣水體的精神生態 The Spiritual Ecosystem of Water Body
\nAcross the continents\, oceans connect the world—yet water has always stirred complex emotions.\nAmniotic fluid is our first home; the ocean\, the origin of all life. Water marks both the beginning of existence and the place where culture and belief intertwine. \nWhen shapeless water takes form—as shifting rivers\, unfathomable lakes or immeasurable seas—it becomes an “otherworld”\, set apart from land. We fear its depth\, yet imbue it with boundless imagination. \nIn Taiwan’s diverse water beliefs\, Indigenous myths describe ancestors emerging from the ocean or migrating to the mountains after great floods. On the plains\, tales speak of the “blind serpent” that swells rivers and reshapes their course. Communities have dug wells\, built irrigation channels\, and held rituals to honor water spirits. The Siraya people offered ancestral rites with jars of water; coastal villagers send divine boats across the sea to ward off disease. \nThe Spirit of Water gathers these memories and beliefs into an abstract model of Taiwan’s landscape. The terrain flows from mountain streams to river mouths. Visitors first glimpse the highlands\, then descend into an underworld river\, weaving through gods and mortals\, past rivers\, canals\, and estuaries—before returning to the source. Amid rising and falling terrain\, one encounters the rituals\, crafts\, and stories of Taiwan’s many communities\, and journeys through a realm quietly guided by the spirits of water.

SUMMARY:接海之島 The Island of Seascapes｜臺灣山海的文化生態 Cultural Ecosystem of Seas ＆Mountains
\nThe Island of Seascapes takes Water Societies as its curatorial core\, exploring the multilayered relationship between people\, water\, and the environment through the island’s geography and cultural contexts. \nThe centerpiece is a large woven installation suspended in midair—composed of agricultural scaffolding\, fishing ropes and sea salt. It symbolizes the life-forms that emerge from coexistence with water\, shaping a sensory\, ever-shifting cultural landscape. Beneath it\, a reflective space unfolds\, interwoven with light and shadow\, showcasing films\, documentaries\, photography\, and books to compose a narrative-rich and immersive water society. \nThe exhibition presents 25 film and video works spanning different eras\, features contributions from six visual artists and photographers\, and offers nearly 40 books. These explore river and ocean ecologies\, survival experiences\, belief systems\, cultural memory\, and urban transformation. Through the layering of time\, space\, and perspective\, viewers enter a dialectical and sensory mode of reading\, and reflect on the flow and transformative nature of cultural memory and social structures. \nWith its open curatorial structure\, The Island of Seascapes invites audiences to freely connect with the materials\, shaping their own personal pathways of understanding. \nThis is not merely an exhibition about water—but a space for cultural dialogue and imagining the future.

\nWater is formless\, yet ever-shifting in its many expressions.\nIt becomes mist\, drifting through low hills and awakening the breath of slumbering forests;\nIt becomes rivers\, carving through the folds of the land\, etching the passage of time;\nIt becomes lakes\, quietly reflecting light and the memory of the past.\nIn its constant dance between motion and stillness\, water shapes the landscape—and evokes cultural memories of harmony between people and nature. \nThe Realm of Mist is a sensory journey guided by water and shrouded in mist. It leads us deep into Taiwan’s foothills and forested terrains. The exhibition begins with The First Form of Water: Forest Language in the Drizzle\, where mist—the earliest form of water—summons primal sensory connections between humans and the nature. It then flows into The Shifting Form of Water: The Interlacing of Rivers and Terrain\, where rivers trace stories of migration and cultural change. Finally\, it arrives at The Resting Form of Water: Settlements Reflected in Stillness\, where calm waters mirror the traces of everyday life and spiritual belief. \nAs mist\, river\, and lake\, water quietly reshapes itself—connecting nature and culture\, sensation and memory\, the present and what’s to come.\nThrough the mist\, we once again listen to water’s ancient language—feeling a silent current rooted deep in the land.

This year\, a series of spectacular activities will take place at Dadaocheng Wharf\, featuring four themed firework shows and five live music performances. The riverside will be illuminated with dazzling lights\, creating the most romantic and enchanting midsummer nights. \nDihua Street will host a special themed area celebrating the 30th anniversary of Disney·Pixar’s classic animation Toy Story with a “Dadaocheng Retro Toy Store” event. At 19:00 on Wednesdays\, August 6\, 13 and 20\, to minimize traffic around the festival\, traffic restrictions will be imposed at Dadaocheng Wharf floodgates\, on the roads outside the floodwall and on the surrounding city roads. Police and traffic volunteers will be deployed to assist with managing traffic flow. Buses around the event venue will also be operating more frequently to accommodate the large crowds. Taipei City Government’s Department of Information and Tourism urges visitors to take public transportation and then walk to the festival venue to reduce traffic in the area. \nTo reduce traffic in the festival area\, traffic restrictions will be put in place on some city roads between 19:00 and 21:30 on Wednesdays during the festival period (August 6\, 13 and 20). The area affected lies between Liangzhou Street to the south\, Yanping North Road\, Tacheng Street\, and Xining North Road to the west\, Chang’an West Road\, Civic Boulevard and Zhongxiao West Road to the north\, and the Huanhe Expressway to the east. This area is flexible and may be expanded if necessary. Residents within this zone will be allowed access by presenting ID. \nTraffic restrictions will be in effect at the Dadaocheng Wharf floodgates between 19:00 and 21:30. Motorcycles and cars will be prohibited from entering or exiting through Danshui No. 3 and No. 5 Floodgates. Emergency access routes will be established. Street parking outside the two floodgates will be prohibited between 10:00 and 12:00 on Wednesday mornings. Parking will also be prohibited in parking spaces 51 through 69 in the parking lot beyond Danshui No. 5 Floodgate. Monthly passholders\, please take note. Additionally\, YouBike 2.0 (Dadaocheng Wharf Station) services will be suspended and Taipei City Riverside Bike Rental Center (Dadaocheng Station) situated within the event area closed between 18:00 and 21:30; no bicycle rental services will be available between those times. \nFor the safety of the crowds of visitors watching fireworks\, Department of Information and Tourism would like to remind visitors that the sidewalks on Zhongxiao Bridge and Taipei Bridge will be closed to pedestrians between 19:00 and 21:00 on Wednesdays (these restrictions may be lifted earlier depending on the circumstances); the Earth’s Reappearance land bridge and Dunhuang Scenic Platform\, which connect Dihua Recreational Sports Park to the bicycle path outside the floodwall\, will also be cleared. Due to the large number of people attending the festival\, Taipei City Mall exit Y27 will be exit-only between 8:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. on Wednesdays. Festival-goers\, please take note. \nFour themed fireworks displays will take place during this year’s Taipei Summer Festival. Five-minute displays will take place on August 6\, 13 and 20\, and an eight-minute grand finale display will be held on August 30. Each display will be accompanied by music\, creating a summer feast for the senses. Businesses and district leaders were consulted during the initial planning phases of this year’s event. Most businesses reported that weekday events help boost business opportunities. For example\, last year’s fireworks day saw a significant increase in sales in the commercial district\, and weekday hotel occupancy rates rose by over 30%\, demonstrating that zoned events can help boost tourism and encourage consumer spending. \nBut there will be more than just the grand finale fireworks display to enjoy on August 30. At 15:00\, the Cheng Sings concert will begin at Yong Le Market in Dadaocheng. Visitors can enjoy an afternoon of music and shopping\, browsing the hipster-style brand market and discovering unique products. This year the festival is also partnering with over 50 local businesses in the Dadaocheng commercial district. During the festival period\, purchases of NT$500 or more can be redeemed at Dadaocheng Visitor Center for a limited-edition Dadaocheng mosquito repellent pouch\, exclusive to the festival. Take a stroll around Dadaocheng and pick up one of these gifts to take home with you. \nThe fireworks displays are expected to attract large crowds every Wednesday night. To maintain order and traffic safety\, additional personnel will be deployed around Dadaocheng Wharf to assist with traffic control. Remote reminders will also be sent out via CMS (Parking Information System). The public is strongly encouraged to use public transportation to reach the fireworks displays. When taking the Taipei Metro\, get off at Beimen\, Daqiaotou or Shuanglian MRT stations. Visitors can shop for souvenirs or enjoy dinner in the Dihua commercial district before walking to Dadaocheng Wharf to enjoy the fireworks and the night view of the river. For more information on the festival and related traffic restrictions\, please visit Travel Taipei website (https://www.travel.taipei/). \n \n

\nWhen the heartbeat of percussion instruments meets the soul of traditional Chinese music\,\na musical festival that spans the past and present and integrates the East and the West is about to take place. \nThe finale of 2025 Taoyuan National Music Festival solemnly invites the country’s most internationally renowned Zhu Zongqing Percussion Ensemble and the powerful Taoyuan City National Music Orchestra to join hands for the first time\, opening a cross-border resonant artistic dialogue with magnificent arrangements and extreme tacit understanding. The entire performance was led by conductor Zhang Jiayun \, who is known for her sharp sense of rhythm and dramatic control. She is good at extracting and advancing the multi-part interweaving of percussion and national music\, pushing the audio-visual tension to the limit and leading the audience into the flow of music. \nThe program was full of excitement. The grand opening of “Zhuolu Fantasy” presented an epic duel on an ancient battlefield; “White Snake Fantasy” blended legendary stories and depicted love\, sorrow and joy with percussion colors; “Drama. Song. Zen” integrated theatrical body movements with the dialogue between Eastern and Western sounds\, showing the tension of cooperative competition and the flow of Zen in interaction and resonance; in the second half\, Lin Yanxing\, a young musician of Taiwan’s national music star project\, was invited to perform “String Songs on the Frontier” composed by Li Binyang\, which was based on Du Fu’s poem “The March of the Chariots” and outlined the customs and people of the frontier. The piece is full of literary sentiments\, showing the young performers’ delicate interpretation and unrestrained tension; “Searching for the Roots of Ancient Sophora Tree” extends with simple melodies\, looking for inner memories in the notes; the finale “Flower Island” uses folk songs related to flowers from various ethnic groups in Taiwan as its material\, interweaving Taiwan’s diverse cultural features through rich orchestration and harmony\, creating a passionate and moving finale. \n2025 Taoyuan National Music Festival Closing Concert is a cross-border resonance and artistic dialogue that combines tradition and modernity\, new and classic\, percussion and national music. We sincerely invite you to join us for a wonderful afternoon with Zhu Zongqing Percussion Ensemble and Taoyuan City National Music Orchestra\, to draw a magnificent end to the annual event\, and to meet again in 2026! \n報名 To apply：https://www.opentix.life/event/1923014622699184129

Seeing the Light Beyond the Spectrum
\nHello\, I’m Monica Chung. \nWhen I was a child\, the concept of the autism spectrum didn’t really exist. I was often told\, “Look people in the eyes when you speak”\, “Stand still\, don’t fidget” and when I couldn’t bear noisy places\, I was told to “endure it”. In unfamiliar\, crowded places\, I was told to “be outgoing”. I was expected to speak politely and not be “rude”. When I had meltdowns and cried uncontrollably\, my family would shout back at me even louder or physically punish me. Over time\, I stopped expressing myself and stopped listening to my inner voice. I grew numb to many things—after all\, everything I did seemed to be wrong. Every part of me was something to be “corrected”. \nSo I started wearing a mask and performed a version of myself that others could accept. I did this for over 30 years. \nBut constantly wearing a mask and denying my truest self left me feeling profoundly lonely. No one truly understood me. Eventually\, my mental health deteriorated and I developed severe depression and anxiety. Then\, five years ago\, I was diagnosed with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder). Suddenly\, everything in my life made sense. From that point on\, I began learning to embrace who I really am\, and life started to flow more smoothly. In 2022\, I published a book titled Turns Out\, I Have Autism\, hoping to help more people understand autism from the perspective of someone who experiences it. I’ve since been devoted to promoting self-acceptance among those on the autism spectrum. \nLast year\, I gave a TEDxTalk titled: “How Can People on the Autism Spectrum Live a Happy Life?”https://rb.gy/5p2x4bIn this talk\, I encouraged people on the spectrum to better understand and embrace their own traits in order to coexist harmoniously with the world. \nThis ASD sharing lecture is one of the few in Taiwan led by a person on the spectrum. I will guide attendees through the world of ASD\, sharing firsthand insights into behaviors that may seem unusual or strange to neurotypical individuals. I’ll also introduce new global perspectives on neurodiversity and leave time for a Q&A session. \nBecause I want to engage with each attendee personally\, this will be a small-scale lecture. I hope everyone can come prepared with a few questions so we can discuss them together. \nOriginally\, this talk was designed for parents of children with ASD to help them better understand their kids. But after hearing from others who also wanted to attend\, I decided to open it up to all adults. However\, to maintain a smooth and focused environment\, only registered adult participants will be admitted on the day—no children\, please. Thank you for understanding 🙏🏻 \nAs I need to rent the venue\, coordinate various logistics\, and invest time\, energy\, and mental effort in preparing this lecture\, it will be a paid event. \n報名 To apply：https://www.accupass.com/eflow/ticket/2505260744311302759805?utm_campaign=accu_banner&utm_medium=home_north&utm_source=Web
