His works accumulate the diverse spatialities of everyday life and present subjective interpretations through decorative planar effects. The interplay of color blocks and hues creates spatial aesthetics of contrast\, constructing a fantastical realm of reassembled symbols. These compositions portray impressions of Taiwan’s urban landscapes and natural scenery.

MCU Business Design Gallery Presents Bear Chiang’s Solo Exhibition
Same same and different.」，歡迎全校師生免費前往欣賞。 Same same and different.」 \nThe Business Design Gallery\, located on the third floor of the Design Building at Taoyuan Campus\, is showcasing Bear Chiang’s solo exhibition\, “Same Same and Different”\, now through January 17\, 2025. Faculty and students are welcome to visit and enjoy the exhibition free of charge. \nConcept Behind Same Same and Different:\nLiving in the suburbs with a small vegetable garden\, Bear Chiang describes the labor-intensive tasks involved—removing weeds\, pruning branches\, sorting leaves and tree limbs\, composting organic waste\, and burning dried materials into ash—all of which often leave one covered in dirt. However\, amidst the fatigue\, magical moments arise: breathtaking skies\, the feel of soil underfoot and meditative stillness created through movement. This physical labor illuminates an inner light\, inspiring the artist to use a brush to recreate those harmonious\, joyful moments. \nLife’s tools and signals are inherently within us\, guiding us to seek and speak our truth. “Take your time; everything you need is already prepared for you”\, Bear Chiang reflects. \nAbout the Artist:\nBear Chiang graduated in 2009 from Ming Chuan University of Design and is an artist working in illustration\, graphic design\, sculpture and painting. Passionate about nature\, Chiang draws inspiration from its rules and rhythms\, creating with instinct and intuition. The artist’s personal brand\, “Bear Chiang’s Recipe”\, employs “cooking” as a metaphor for crafting themes and expressions in life\, resulting in products like postcards\, cards\, silkscreened tote bags\, and collaborations across books\, magazines\, TV dramas\, transportation cards and stationery.

SUMMARY:《在．樹林》蘇敏(蘇光媛)創作個展 "In the Forest" – Su Min Solo Art Exhibition
\nIn the Forest series attempts to use elongated compositions\, creating the sensation of strolling through the woods. The artist is deeply enamored with the scroll format\, which unfolds with a narrative and surprises—an elegant approach to capturing time and space. \nThis exhibition portrays scenes from the artist’s everyday life. Within a lychee orchard\, the seasons bring dramatic changes\, cycles of growth and decay\, and stories that unfold daily. Encounters with snakes and other animals during walks with her dogs\, as well as moments of loss\, such as burying beloved pets in the forest\, turn the woods into a living diary—a record of life’s journey. \n展覽期間 Date｜2025/01/09-2025/1/22 \n展覽時間 Time｜09:00-17:00 \n展覽地點 Venue｜新莊文化藝術中心1F藝術廳 Art Gallery\, 1F\, Xin Zhuang Cultural Arts Center（新北市新莊區中平路133號 No. 133\, Zhongping Rd.\, Xinzhuang Dist.\, New Taipei City）

36th Ming Chuan Literary Awards Adds High School Division to Kick Off Early
\nEntering its 36th year\, the Ming Chuan Literary Awards is branching out further by launching a new category specifically for high school students: High School Chinese Prose Division. High school students are invited to delve into creative writing and nurture their literary spirit from an early age. How will university and high school students spark new ideas in the realm of literary creation? The results are sure to be exciting! \nAccording to the submission guidelines for the High School Prose Division of the Ming Chuan Literary Awards\, entries should be prose pieces between 1\,000 and 3\,000 words with no set theme. Five top entries will be selected without ranking. Professor Yu Shiu-Yun\, Head of Department of Applied Chinese\, explains that prose is a form of writing focused on personal experience\, emotions and observations\, making it a perfect outlet for high school students to express their thoughts and reflections. Professor Yu encourages students to use prose as a means to present their authentic selves\, noting that while students at this stage may have limited life experiences\, they often possess heightened emotional awareness and sensitivity to their surroundings. \nNotably\, the Ming Chuan Literary Awards is one of the few university literary competitions that publishes winning entries alongside judges’ comments\, providing each winner with a valuable record of their academic journey.

SUMMARY:從保存到再造 From Preservation to Transformation──林主勵新秀創作個展 Solo Exhibition of LIN Zhu-Li
\nOld blankets and clothes often become fragile\, torn or even moldy over time. While replacement may be necessary\, it is difficult to part with items that have been such constant companions. Using a dipping technique\, LIN Zhu-Li transforms the materials of these textiles without altering their original forms. Through this process\, the textiles are preserved\, transformed and reimagined. \nAs an artist\, LIN draws inspiration from daily life\, observing its subtleties and reflecting on the connections and meanings embedded in the objects around him. To convey these reflections\, LIN employs the dipping technique to preserve the appearance of textiles\, such as shower towels and old clothes. This process alters their material properties\, freezing and highlighting the beauty of the textiles’ wrinkles. These items are transformed from soft to hard\, from transient to eternal\, and from everyday objects to ceramic artworks. \nThrough his artworks\, LIN challenges the audience’s perceptions of everyday objects\, encouraging deeper reflection. Furthermore\, LIN selects black and white as the dominant colors in his works to create stark visual contrasts that emphasize texture and details. This choice enriches how textiles can be interpreted and focuses the audience’s attention on details and emotional resonance of his creations.

Annual Concert
\nThis piece was commissioned by Wakayama Prefecture’s Iwade Second Junior High School and premiered at the Wakayama Prefecture Wind Ensemble Competition. Spanning approximately 7 minutes and 30 seconds\, the composition draws inspiration from Wakayama’s most iconic landscapes: Shirahama Beach and Sandanbeki Cliff. The piece intertwines vivid mental imagery of these breathtaking seascapes. \nThe composer believes that the grandeur and beauty of the sea embody a profound coexistence with the greatest forces (wisdom) of human existence. Listeners and performers\, by embracing this perspective\, can find happiness and fulfillment through the music. \nThe piece opens with “The Morning Sea”\, where clarinets mimic the calls of seagulls\, creating a sense of ships setting sail and gradually leaving the harbor. The middle and low brass then carry the main melody\, expanding it to evoke the sensation of a ship cruising across the vast ocean. A smooth and elegant solo by the alto saxophone follows\, symbolizing the motherly warmth and care of the sea. \nIn the middle section\, the scenery transitions to the dramatic Sandanbeki Cliffs. The rhythmic syncopation from the low brass captures the unpredictable waves crashing against the cliffs\, while the high woodwinds’ rapid flourishes emulate the sparkling spray of waves hitting the rocky coastline. The interplay alternates between power and brilliance\, encapsulating the ever-changing beauty of the sea. \nFinally\, the composer reintroduces the main theme\, culminating in a resplendent and triumphant conclusion.

The Road: What You Walk\, Why?》在路上實驗之一 An Experimental Journey
\n— Retracing past “roads” reflects the scars and wisdom of life experiences.\n— Traveling present “roads” seeks to anchor the physical existence.\n— Journeying toward future “roads” projects imagination and aspirations. \nThis is an exploration of memory\, longing and physical embodiment. \nAmid mountains and city paths\, these routes trace fragments of life\, imprinting past stories on the earth. Nine creators\, hailing from diverse backgrounds\, have embarked on an infinite “road”. These roads are not only physical trails but reflections of their lives\, journeys and quests. They tread with their feet\, capture moments through imagery and document experiences through words\, attempting to bridge the past\, present and future. \nSome recount childhood homes and parental teachings; others illustrate urban solitude amid bustling streets. Some channel artistic expressions to depict life’s twists and unreachable dreams. Each road carries a unique story; every act is a reinterpretation of self and others. These creators unearth insights through exploration\, transforming their journeys into countless potential futures\, ensuring life’s “road” continues to stretch forward. \n【場次一】1/18（六）觀眾入場 18:00 | 正式開演 18:20（本場次結束後進行30分鐘演後座談） \n【場次二】1/19（日）觀眾入場 18:00 | 正式開演 18:20 \n【演出地點】宜蘭中興文化創意園區 56號建物 \n【演出時長】100分鐘；無中場休息 \n\nSession 1: January 18 (Saturday)\, Audience Entry: 18:00 | Show Starts: 18:20 (30-minute post-show discussion included)\nSession 2: January 19 (Sunday)\, Audience Entry: 18:00 | Show Starts: 18:20\nVenue: No. 56\, Chung Hsing Cultural & Creative Park\, Yilan\nDuration: 100 minutes (no intermission)\n\n【演出創作 Creative Performers】 \nmarang aly 李杰 \nkacaw sukli 陳安磊 \nSawmah Cidal 張詠晴 \nniwa panay 劉姵均 \nEnah Panay Mulani’ 黃梓童 \nBawxin Suyan 弗奧伊・舒樣 \nPiya Talaliman 李偉雄 \nTemu・Masin 徐智文 \nmaya’ a taboeh hayawan 羅媛 \n注意事項 Notes \n・本演出無開立發票。 \n\nNo invoices will be issued for this performance.\nAudience members are free to move around during the performance.\nNo eating\, drinking\, or smoking is permitted in the venue.\n\n最新演出資訊詳情，請關注ilaLan實驗場Facebook ＆ Instagram粉絲專頁！！！ \nFor the latest updates\, follow ilaLan Experimental Fields on Facebook and Instagram!

Between 1929 and 1931\, five fish trading houses were established here\, attracting seafood restaurant owners from all over Taiwan eager to purchase the freshest fish. It became a renowned fish trading hub. \nOver time\, Kanzaiding’s seafood offerings expanded to include catches from coastal and deep-sea fisheries across Taiwan. The market’s vibrant scene turned it into a bustling nocturnal hub\, comparable to a night market. Watching professional auctioneers in action is a cultural experience unique to Taiwan’s fishing communities. \nWhat’s a late-night fish market tour without some heartwarming snacks? \nEach participant will enjoy Kanzaiding’s famous charcoal-grilled sandwiches\, featuring perfectly toasted exteriors with soft\, flavorful fillings. Foreign sailors often brought goods from the U.S. and Japan\, placing them in commission stores for consignment. Customers could also request sailors to bring specific items from abroad. \nThis unique trading model became known as the commission store system. \nSailors sold second-hand items\, commission stores collected them\, and customers purchased them. This commercial ecosystem gradually developed into a thriving street district\, eventually becoming a unique cultural feature of the port city. At its peak\, over 300 commission stores operated day and night\, attracting large crowds. \nIn 1979\, Taiwan’s tourism industry boomed\, and citizens gained freedom to travel abroad. The rise of department stores led to the decline of commission store culture\, eventually fading from history. \nThe decline of commission stores left the district forgotten until efforts from local businesses and communities between 2016 and 2022 began to revive it. Youth entrepreneurs rooted themselves in the district\, bringing fresh ideas and life to the area. Regular community-building and local creative activities now link neighborhood businesses\, host markets\, invite street performers\, and introduce new shops\, revitalizing the long-dormant Commission Store District.
