Tate Modern\, UK Exhibition
\nJoseph Mallord William Turner (1775-1851)\, Britain’s greatest painter\, is known as the “Painter of Light”. Through his exceptional control of color and light\, he vividly captured the movement and power of nature\, redefining the meaning of landscape painting. \n2025 marks the 250th anniversary of William Turner’s birth. The Tate Modern in London has launched a series of commemorative events\, titled “Turner 250”. The highlight is the largest-ever global touring exhibition of William Turner’s work: “William Turner: Sublime Echoes”. Following stops in Monaco and Shanghai\, the exhibition will return to Taiwan in June of this year. Featuring 80 authentic works by Turner\, including drawings\, oil paintings\, and watercolors\, the exhibition fully captures his remarkable creative journey\, making it Taiwan’s most significant art event of the year! \n⊳英國泰德美術館 Tate Modern\, UK \n從私人收藏到國家級美術館 打破傳統博物館思維的藝術機構 \nFrom private collection to national art museum\, an art institution that breaks the traditional museum mentality \n英國泰德美術館於1897年由利物浦糖商亨利·泰德（Henry Tate）爵士創立，早年以國家藝廊的方向發展，至今在英國已有四座美術館的規模，包括歷史最悠久的泰德不列顛美術館（Tate Britain） 、英國北方藝術重鎮泰德利物浦美術館（Tate Liverpool）、深耕在地文化發展的泰德聖艾夫斯美術館（Tate St Ives）、以及人氣最旺的泰德現代美術館（Tate Modern）等。 \nFounded in 1897 by Liverpool sugar merchant Sir Henry Tate\, the Tate Gallery in the UK initially developed as a national gallery. Today\, it encompasses four galleries in the UK: Tate Britain\, the oldest; Tate Liverpool\, a major hub for Northern art; Tate St Ives\, deeply engaged in local cultural development; and Tate Modern\, the most popular. As the UK’s most representative and highly visited gallery\, the Tate Gallery boasts a collection encompassing 500 years of British and Western art\, with a particularly significant collection of masterpieces by William H. The hundreds of paintings and tens of thousands of watercolors and drawings donated by Turner during his final years are among the most sought-after and must-see attractions. In recent years\, the Tate Modern has pioneered thematic exhibitions that transcend timelines\, establishing it as one of the most forward-thinking art museums in the world. \n全球史上最大規模 威廉．透納真跡畫展首度登台 \nThe world’s largest exhibition of William Turner’s authentic paintings debuts in Taiwan \n威廉·透納在世時就創立了基金，意在幫助貧窮的藝術家，這也成為泰德美術館成立英國最著名的藝術獎「透納獎」最重要的原因。 \nDuring his lifetime\, William Turner established a fund to aid impoverished artists\, a key reason for the Tate Modern to establish the Turner Prize\, Britain’s most prestigious art award. After his death\, some of his paintings were bequeathed to the nation\, while the majority remain at the Tate Modern. As the largest collection of Turner’s works\, the Tate Modern will present 80 authentic Turner paintings\, organized into seven sections: English Landscapes\, the Alps\, Venice\, Storms at Sea\, Between Sea and Sky\, Historical Stories\, and Sublime Aesthetics\, spanning his career. To highlight the defining era of Turner’s work\, the Tate Modern has also selected nearly 30 works by contemporary artists\, creating an unprecedented\, largest\, and most comprehensive exhibition dedicated to William Turner. Highlights of the exhibition area \n⊳始於英國風景 Starting from the British landscape \n透納因早期探索英國風景，而成為大自然崇高力量的熱情觀察者，他詳細描繪這些自然的景象，更讓他聲名遠播。 \nTurner’s early explorations of the English landscape established him as a passionate observer of the sublime power of nature\, and his meticulous depiction of these natural scenes further cemented his fame. To authentically capture the atmosphere of his surroundings\, Turner often immersed himself in nature for research\, incorporating on-site sketches\, memory\, and imagination into his paintings\, transforming these elements into breathtaking compositions. （Landscape Composition with a Ruined Castle on a Cliff）約瑟夫·馬洛德·威廉·透納（Joseph Mallord William Turner），1792–3。（圖片來源：TATE） \nLandscape Composition with a Ruined Castle on a Cliff by Joseph Mallord William Turner\, 1792–3. Walk into the mountains \n透納在1802年第一次遊歷歐洲時，立即受到阿爾卑斯山的壯麗景色強烈吸引。 \nOn his first trip to Europe in 1802\, Turner was instantly captivated by the majestic beauty of the Alps. He began exploring the mountains\, documenting his experiences firsthand through sketches and watercolors. Turner was also captivated by the unique light and atmosphere of the mountains. He observed the reflections of colors in snow\, water\, and sky\, completing thousands of elementary studies and applying unexpectedly bold colors to striking effect. His mastery of light and color inspired Monet and the French Impressionists\, and his innovative techniques have influenced generations of artists. （Brunnen\, from the Lake of Lucerne: Sample Study）約瑟夫·馬洛德·威廉·透納（Joseph Mallord William Turner），1843-5。（圖片來源：TATE） \nBrunnen\, from the Lake of Lucerne: Sample Study by Joseph Mallord William Turner\, 1843-5. \nIn the 18th century\, Turner lived in a world where paintings that vividly depicted myths or biblical stories were considered the most noble form of fine art. Most paintings tended towards a poetic and picturesque classicism. However\, Turner broke new ground. He employed classical scenes and innovative painting techniques to create paintings that were less idealistic\, more emotionally affecting\, and in line with emerging tastes. His works not only won the admiration of his contemporaries\, but also amazed viewers for centuries to come. （Story of Apollo and Daphne）約瑟夫·馬洛德·威廉·透納（Joseph Mallord William Turner），1837。（圖片來源：TATE） \nStory of Apollo and Daphne by Joseph Mallord William Turner\, 1837. \nOf the many artists who have depicted Venice\, Turner is one of the few who has found an emotional connection with the unique character of this magnificent water city. His career is remarkable for its achievements and innovations\, and his paintings of Venice were immediately recognized as some of his most magical and dazzling works upon their first viewing. To this day\, Turner’s vision remains uniquely significant\, capturing both the beauty and sadness of Venice\, and the terrifying threat of the sea swallowing it. （圖片來源：TATE） \nVenice – Maria della Salute\, Joseph Mallord William Turner\, 1844. \nSeascapes comprise over half of Turner’s oeuvre\, including paintings of whaling vessels\, fishing boats\, shipwrecks and battles. These are his most explosive and evocative works\, capturing the perils of the ocean and humanity’s insignificance and powerlessness in the face of nature. （‘Hurrah! for the Whaler Erebus! Another Fish!’） （圖片來源：TATE） \n‘Hurrah! for the Whaler Erebus! Another Fish!’ Joseph Mallord William Turner\, 1846. Between Sea and Sky \n透納不僅在畫作中體現大自然的偉大力量，更強調其具有詩意和催眠的特質。 \nTurner not only captured the majestic power of nature in his paintings\, but also emphasized its poetic and hypnotic qualities. His depictions of sea and sky involved hundreds of close studies of details such as drifting clouds\, energetic waves\, and surging surf. These details\, when viewed together\, reveal Turner’s profound awe for both the sea and the sky. （圖片來源：TATE） \nThe Blue Rigi\, Sunrise\, Joseph Mallord William Turner\, 1842. \nIn his later years\, Turner produced numerous paintings that depict purely light and atmospheric elements. These abstract works\, containing minimal figurative or topographical elements\, were often considered “unfinished” at the time. However\, the number of such works preserved in Turner’s studio suggests that he had completed them to his satisfaction. These works\, embodying Turner’s late style\, earned him the reputation of a prophet of modern painting. （圖片來源：TATE） \nThree Seascapes by Joseph Mallord William Turner\, 1827. \nCurator Elizabeth Brooke noted that the Tate Modern has never loaned such a large number of Turner works at once\, including over 40 oil paintings. This will be the largest-ever global touring exhibition. The exhibition will showcase William Turner’s defining influence on painting and the representation of the sublime in Western art through dialogue with works by nearly 30 leading artists\, including John Akonfa\, Olafur Eliasson\, Richard Long\, Cornelia Parker\, Katie Patterson\, Mark Roscoe and Jessica Worboys. She added\, “2025 marks the 250th anniversary of Turner’s birth\, making this summer’s exhibition in Taiwan even more meaningful. One of the most eye-catching works\, ‘Blue Rigi\, Sunrise’\, will return to the Tate Modern for a 10-year period after its tour. We sincerely invite everyone to seize this rare opportunity and witness the magic of William Turner’s art firsthand.” \n報名 To apply：https://www.opentix.life/event/1914580546594426880?srsltid=AfmBOoqBCcUaWmpgrEL_eEsR88CAgAZgnJDtCO3StRLfEB80Eintm17T

Travel with the Art Servant — Highlights Edition
\nSince 2022\, the Art Servant team has traveled across Australia\, the Netherlands\, France\, and the United Kingdom to gather first-hand case studies for teaching and cultural observation. From London’s Tate Modern and Melbourne’s NGV\, to Amsterdam’s Van Gogh Museum\, their visits have covered world-class artists such as Yayoi Kusama\, Yoshitomo Nara\, and David Hockney. \nInstead of keeping all this inspiring content exclusive to 2025 Art Writing Workshop\, this special session — “Art Gathering: Highlights Edition” — opens the experience to everyone! Through an engaging and humorous narrative\, paired with travel tips on local attractions and culinary gems\, participants will embark on an immersive cultural journey and develop their art-viewing literacy! Happ. No. 6-1\, Ln. 185\, Nanjing W. All in-person participants will be asked to sign a portrait rights consent form upon check-in. If you do not wish to authorize image use\, please choose the online participation option when registering.Join us and travel with the Art Servant! \n備註2：本場活動線上參與使用Google Meet，活動前24小時提供 \nNotes: \n\n\nAll tickets include an electronic receipt\, which will be emailed after the event. \n\n\nOnline participation will be hosted via Google Meet\, with access details sent 24 hours prior. 范伯寧恩美術館典藏庫 \nSession 1 — Opening the Storage Room: The New Museum Experience \nThe Neiwei Arts Center in Kaohsiung is one of Taiwan’s few institutions that publicly opens its conservation and restoration spaces\, integrating preservation\, education\, and professional training. As “front-stage access to the back-of-house” becomes the new museum trend\, institutions like London’s V&A East Storehouse have become must-visit sites for art lovers. Yet\, the world’s first open-storage museum was actually Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen in Rotterdam. As collections move from secrecy to transparency\, are you ready to join this new wave of museum engagement? \n。澳洲 THE LUME Melbourne – 梵谷 \n。 英國 Lightroom – 大衛·霍克尼 \nSession 2 — Immersive Experiences: The Past\, Present\, and Future of Digital Art Exhibitions \nRemember the frenzy of teamLab: Dance! Art Exhibition and Learn & Play! Future Park in 2016 at Huashan? Since then\, teamLab has held three major exhibitions in Taiwan. In Japan\, teamLab Borderless recently opened in Azabudai Hills\, Tokyo\, and teamLab Biovortex Kyoto is set to launch this year. \nWhile the rest of the world shifts toward permanent immersive spaces\, Taiwan still focuses on temporary exhibitions. Are these digital art experiences the future norm\, or merely a fleeting trend? Join us to explore the evolution and direction of immersive art! \nFeatured cases:・The LUME Melbourne — Van Gogh Alive・ 安塞姆·基弗 Anselm Kiefer – 阿姆斯特丹 \nSession 3 — Must-See Master Retrospectives of Contemporary Art \nRecent years have seen major solo retrospectives for global contemporary art icons like Yayoi Kusama\, Yoshitomo Nara\, Olafur Eliasson\, Louise Bourgeois\, and Anthony McCall. Yet\, did you know there are different types of solo exhibitions? \nWhile international museums often spend 3–5 years curating large-scale retrospectives that map an artist’s full creative evolution\, Taiwan still faces limitations in both resources and institutional support for such comprehensive presentations. Let’s take inspiration from global examples and imagine what’s possible here! 澳洲墨爾本 Heide Museum of Modern Art \n。 日本十和田美術館 \nSession 4 — From Private to Local: Rethinking the Possibilities of Museums \nIn 2024\, major exhibitions at Fubon Art Museum in Taipei and Chimei Museum in Tainan thrust Taiwan’s private museums into the spotlight. Meanwhile\, municipal art museums are also on the rise\, with Taichung City Art Museum set to open soon. \nYet\, many local museums are policy-driven\, with infrastructure preceding identity. To avoid turning them into cookie-cutter replicas\, we can learn from diverse international models that connect local culture with global dialogue. \n網美打卡 – 皮諾私人美術館 巴黎證券交易所 \n教育推廣 – 倫敦交通博物館 Hidden London \n場地特定 – 雪梨新南威爾斯美術館 Oil Tank Gallery \nSession 5 — Bonus Feature: The Art Servant’s Personal Picks \nSince 2022\, the Art Servant team has been collecting international exhibition cases for teaching purposes. Yet\, many hidden gems never made it into class! This session unveils three favorite “behind-the-scenes” exhibitions — the team’s personal recommendations for art lovers. \n・Instagram Hotspot — Pinault Collection\, Paris Stock Exchange・Educational Outreach — London Transport Museum: Hidden London・ \nIn-Person Exclusive: Exhibition Catalog Showcase \nArt catalogs are often treasured by true enthusiasts. For this session\, we’re bringing actual exhibition catalogs featured in our discussion right to the venue!Participants can flip through and examine the visual design\, curatorial concepts\, and editorial craftsmanship of different institutions — a mini art book fair designed for discovery and inspiration. \nAbout “Art Gathering” \nThe Art Gathering series hosts occasional small-scale talks where the Art Servant team shares real-world project experiences and exhibition insights. Through pre-event questionnaires\, each session focuses on audience interests in the art and culture field\, encouraging in-depth exchange and professional dialogue.
