Closing out 2024\, Contemporary by U Gallery brings a refreshing exhibition — Gentle Souls. Inspired by her beloved dog\, Haydonna explores the pure world seen from a pet’s low perspective. Using minimalist yet dopamine-rich colors\, her works capture the soft moments of everyday life. \nThe exhibition space extends the concept of “home\,” with HAY Taiwan’s Danish furniture blending art and living. Visitors are invited to immerse themselves in the simplicity and beauty of life. \nHaydonna’s work not only portrays the innocent bond between humans and pets but also prompts reflection on a societal phenomenon: the tendency to assign meaning to things that may lack substance\, or to find emptiness in seemingly meaningful constructs. By returning to the essence of people\, animals\, and objects\, her art offers a sincere perspective through animals’ eyes\, inspiring thoughts on the value of simple living and fostering an appreciation for these fleeting\, precious moments. \nGentle Souls not only captures the clarity of pets’ hearts but subtly reveals humanity’s kindness through its art. The exhibition aspires to reconnect visitors with purity and tender souls. \nSpecial Pet Days: Every Sunday during the exhibition is Pet Day! Bring your furry companions and enjoy a soulful interaction through art. \nHaydonna was born in 1991 in Wisconsin\, USA\, and is currently based in Seoul. \nA graduate of the School of Visual Arts (SVA) in Manhattan\, New York\, she returned to Korea in 2016 and founded her art studio TIN\, where she serves as Creative Director and graphic designer. Ceramic Art by Catherine Kao
\nCeramic art is a perfect combination of culture\, art\, and science. With the extraordinary plasticity of clay\, the artist imitates the texture of leather through realistic techniques and her control over the quality of the clay. Her work reflects fashion in contemporary life\, adds to the diverse expressions of ceramic art\, and embodies the concept of “life as art”. \nLeather products actually are not eco-friendly\, because they are non-recyclable. By imitating used or discarded leather products\, the artist reminds viewers to ponder solutions to our overdraft of Earth’s resources. By way of “subtractive living”\, the artist encourages us to reflect on our own materialistic desires and choose a lifestyle that liberates the environment and our spirits. As archaeological objects and sentiments from humanity’s long history with ceramic fragments\, the artist documents human life in the present with ceramics to serve as witness to our time on this Earth.

\n170 million years ago\, mammals officially emerged on Earth. Through countless evolutionary paths\, humanity eventually came into existence. As beings of spiritual consciousness\, humans dominate the planet\, striving to shed the “animal” label. Yet in the 21st century\, advancements in medicine and technology have reached astonishing heights\, enabling the modification and synthesis of both humans and animals. Now\, the only remaining distinction between humans and animals seems to be the unyielding desire to control every aspect of Earth’s flora and fauna. \nHowever\, Earth has existed as an organic system for nearly 3.8 billion years. Can humanity truly manipulate it with ease\, or will this ambition eventually lead to its downfall? Perhaps it’s time to reconsider and explore the creation of a utopia where humans\, animals and all forms of life coexist in harmony. \nThis collaborative exhibition delves into the intricate connections between humans and animals through the works of three artists: \n\nChan He-Yu: Known for her oil paintings\, Chan interprets human behavior from an animal’s perspective. Her exhibited print series blends animals with classical masterpieces\, showcasing a distinctive style. Additionally\, her representations of the zodiac signs through various animals perfectly capture a dramatic range of atmospheres.\nAer Lu: Utilizing his expertise in watercolor techniques\, Aer skillfully portrays rabbits as protagonists in fairy tales and historical narratives. His works reflect the influence of his upbringing and the cultural zeitgeist\, expressing his emotions through diverse artistic creations.\nLi Shu-Yu: Inspired by her experience with animal testing and the sacrifices of animals—especially lab rats—for human medicine\, Li reimagines the story of The Nutcracker. Her protagonist\, Mark\, lives in a self-created utopia\, embarking on adventures with liberated and modified animals. Mark\, who frequently appears with varying faces\, symbolizes the multiple personas navigating through a multiverse of possibilities.\n\n展覽日期 Date & Time ❚ 2024.12.28(六)—2025.02.09(日) 週二至五 Tuesday to Friday 10:00-18:00 *週一、除夕至初二休園 Closed on Mondays\, and from Chinese New Year’s Eve to the second day of Lunar New Year \n展覽地點 Venue ❚ 中原文創園區 10倉 Chung Yuan Cultural And Creative Park\, Warehouse 10 *免費入場 Free Admission

Tea Fragrance: Bright Emptiness Incense-Making Workshop☼HAYA☼
The History and Culture of Incense \n自古香藥同源；商周時期，用香多以草本芳香植物自然散發香氣，或是曬乾製成香囊，作為驅蟲、除穢、淨身等功用。 \nSince ancient times\, incense and medicine have shared common roots. During the Shang and Zhou dynasties\, aromatic herbs were used for their natural fragrances or dried to create sachets for repelling insects\, purifying the body\, and dispelling impurities. After the Qin and Han dynasties\, woody incense materials were introduced. These were heated or burned directly or ground into powder and blended with other spices. With the spread of religious rituals\, the use of incense became more refined and diversified. \nBy the Song dynasty\, blending techniques had matured\, and incense culture was prevalent among the royal court and literati\, leaving behind numerous elegant formulas. By the Ming dynasty\, records of bamboo-stick incense-making techniques began to appear. Today\, advancements in chemical and mechanical industries\, along with globalization\, have further diversified incense-making materials and techniques\, allowing them to evolve with the times. \nHumanity has since cherished these gifts from nature. Whether used for pleasure\, ritual\, or exploring mystical arts\, incense has gained irreplaceable value and significance. \n\n“Bright” signifies illumination\, wisdom\, and enlightenment\, representing a clear and open state of mind achieved through inner cultivation. It reflects insight into the essence of things and a bright\, clear disposition.\n“Emptiness” originates from the Buddhist concept of śūnyatā\, signifying the absence of inherent existence. It symbolizes a liberated state of mind free from prejudice and attachment.\n\nCombining “bright emptiness” with tea fragrance\, this workshop emphasizes the meditative experience of tea-tasting and incense-burning. Participants are guided into a state of clarity and spaciousness\, rediscovering inner peace and freedom. \n課程內容 Workshop Content \n上半場 Session 1 \n一、香事入門 — 從香型發展介紹用香文化沿革 \n二、合香概述 — 線香為主的合香結構及配伍，以《茶香·明空》為例 \n\nIntroduction to Incense Culture: The evolution of incense use and its cultural significance.\nOverview of Incense Blending: The structure and composition of stick incense\, using Tea Fragrance: Bright Emptiness as an example.\n\n中場休息 Break（品茶體驗 Tea Tasting Experience：了了齋提供） \n下半場 Session 2 \n三、製香實務 — 茶香實作 \n四、交流分享 \n3.
