Embodying Theirstories
\nThe 26th Taipei Arts Festival is set to take place from August 2 to September 8. This year’s theme\, “Embodying Theirstories”\, features ten ticketed performances\, one free program\, and two free residency research presentations\, totaling 40 performances. Artists from Japan\, France\, Belgium\, Thailand\, and Taiwan will participate\, showcasing diverse perspectives on history through various forms and approaches. \nIn the Museum of Time\, “Theater History” can be a retelling of history through the stage\, such as the intergenerational collaboration between Li Huan-xiong and Wu Tzu-ching\, which recreates the 1987 representative work of Taiwan’s small theater movement\, The Intruder. The Golden Bough Theatre’s Xilai’an and Same Party Theatre’s Father Mother explore identity and revisit Taiwan’s human rights journey amidst political changes. \nBeyond collective memory\, “Theater History” can also be a retrospective of personal life experiences. Wichaya Artamat’s Bangkok Apartment offers a dual perspective on Thai social and cultural issues\, while Su Pin-wen\, on the verge of leaving her girlhood behind\, dives into the economics of “leftover women” with her work The Leftover Woman’s Economy\, co-produced with the Centre National de la Danse\, launching a fierce counterattack against a misogynistic society. Miet Warlop’s One Song is a frenzied performance responding to the profound losses everyone experiences in life. Former artistic director of the Centre National de la Danse\, Mathilde Monnier\, in A Light in the Dark\, attempts to convince us that our scars are actually the starting point of recovery and rebirth. \n“Theater History” can also involve an alternate history\, such as François Chaignaud and Akaji Maro’s Gold Shower\, which blends myth to create a boundless exploration beyond age and gender. Four Chairs Theatre’s Sun accurately predicts the light and darkness of human nature in a post-pandemic world. \nWhen artists create a moment in history with us in the theater\, they are writing a chapter in the history of theater\, and all history is contemporary history. Whether it’s the “retelling” of history\, the “re” exploration of experiences\, or the “alternate” history\, these storytelling methods represent significant moments in Taiwan’s contemporary theater. OPENTIX To purchase tickets\, visit OPENTIX：https://www.opentix.life/

Touch Touch Art Exhibition
\nThe exhibition “Touch Touch Art Exhibition: A Tactile Journey Through Architectural History” will make its stop in Taipei\, curated by Fine Miner’s Pace Wu. This unique exhibition showcases the architectural history of the Pantheon in Paris through tactile relief paintings developed in France for the visually impaired\, combined with descriptive audio narratives. Dr. Ho Shih-Yun\, who previously led descriptive tours at the National Palace Museum\, is collaborating to create the descriptive audio system for this exhibition. The aim is to promote artistic equality. The visual design for the exhibition is crafted by Haeliu Design\, where the main graphic makes use of readable yet challenging text\, allowing the general audience to begin experiencing the unwelcoming environment often faced by the visually impaired through graphic design. \nThe exhibition encourages visitors to use their fingertips to explore\, transforming touch into mental imagery\, and combining it with descriptive audio to learn and experience the Pantheon. The guided tours will utilize a “tactile map” paired with a “point pen”\, enabling visually impaired visitors to explore the exhibition independently. True equality can only be realized when the environment is accessible enough for self-navigation. \nThe exhibit will feature origami-crafted darkrooms\, where visitors will experience the exhibition deprived of sight\, relying entirely on touch to reconstruct the shape of the Pantheon and to understand how its architecture\, art\, and history interact with space and time. For contrast\, the Carcassonne Castle series will be displayed in a traditional visual format. The curation replaces all visual cues with tactile design. \nThe Pantheon stands above other buildings\, bearing the marks of French history. This exhibition will delve into the architectural innovations and historical significance of Soufflot’s 18th-century project\, the first of its kind in Paris\, highlighting its structural features and innovations. The works on display will showcase the Pantheon’s exterior (plan/elevation/section) and detail its dimensions and structure. Additionally\, the intricate carvings and frescoes that adorn both the exterior and interior will be presented. The exhibition will also explore the crypt\, now the resting place of the Republic’s great figures\, with tactile representations of its spaces and history. A highlight of the exhibition will be a presentation of Foucault’s pendulum\, first demonstrated at the Pantheon\, proving the Earth’s rotation. Today\, the Pantheon serves as a venue for official and consecration ceremonies in France\, standing as a monumental record of Parisian history. Let us embark on this mental journey through the Pantheon of Paris. \n\n展覽日期 Date｜2024.8.31（六 Saturday）- 2024.9.15（日 Sunday）\n參觀時間 Visiting Hours｜週二-週五 Tuesday-Friday 11:00-18:00  週六-週日 Saturday-Sunday 11:00-19:00（休館時間：每週一 Closed on Mondays）\n展覽地點 Venue｜倏忽空間 Moment: Space 1F （台北市大同區太原路8巷3號1樓 1/F\, No. 3\, Ln. 8\, Taiyuan Rd.\, Datong Dist.\, Taipei City）\n策展人 Curator｜吳佩欣（Pace）\n報名 To apply｜https://www.accupass.com/eflow/ticket/2408090454361761975684?utm_source=EventPage&utm_medium=AdCard&utm_campaign=accu_AdCard_2408300636425979806390

Save Lives unexpectedly mobilized 200\,000 people in Taiwan to donate second-hand shoes\, initiated by You-Ren Yang and Coral Lei\, with the goal of helping children in Kenya avoid sand fleas. This year\, the Shoes That Save Lives International Christian Care Association (commonly known as Shoes That Save Lives) marks its tenth anniversary. Over the past decade\, they have served more than 12 African countries\, led 24\,000 volunteers\, and impacted the lives of over 3 million people. \nFrom what began as simple donations of goods\, Shoes That Save Lives has since expanded to assist the ultra-poor in achieving economic independence\, developing local leadership\, and establishing sustainable community development programs. Share your old shoes and their stories with someone in Africa!
