Program X-site 2025: The Pore Landscape Project
\nAbout Program X-site \nBased on the outdoor plaza of the Taipei Fine Arts Museum (TFAM)\, Program X-site (2014 –) launches an annual open call for experimental temporary installation projects. From multiple perspectives\, such as architectural construction\, contemporary art\, environmental research and public participation\, the event encourages interdisciplinary and publicly engaged projects that emphasize innovative experimentation. Meanwhile\, it inspires the public to imagine and explore the issues related to public space\, urban environment and human development. Over the years\, Program X-site has supported various pioneering projects proposed by cutting-edge teams in architecture and art\, establishing itself as an important incubator of openness and experimentation for young and mid-career generations in Taiwan. \nThe Pore Landscape Project\, conceived by the interdisciplinary team Studio Superficial\, was selected as the 12th laureate in 2025. \nAbout The Pore Landscape Project  \nTaipei is the city most severely affected by the urban heat island effect in Taiwan\, and rising temperatures have gradually reshaped the way people interact with public plazas. Simulating the heat dissipation mechanism of pores\, Studio Superficial has conceived an installation consisting of hundreds of “porous” devices made from recycled aluminum\, symbolically occupying the TFAM outdoor plaza. Embedded into the public space like a breathing carpet with pores\, the installation has initiated a landscape experiment exploring the relationship between people and their surroundings. Constructed from tangible objects and intangible mist\, the installation integrates the concept of microclimate landscape design to regulate light and shadow\, wind direction\, humidity and temperature. It attempts to alleviate the stationary heat on-site while awakening the public’s bodily perception\, ultimately redefining the interaction between the plaza and its visitors. \nVisiting reminder \n1. Chen Cheng-Hsiung at 90 An Abstract Painter and His Collection
\n“The nature of my art is ‘evocative’ rather than ‘descriptive’. Like music\, it is meant to stimulate inner feeling rather than tell a story. It is intended as an intense expression of the inner experience—a visual metaphor\, not a visual narrative.” \n–Chen Cheng-Hsiung\, The Sayings of Chen Cheng-Hsiung on Art \n不僅是一位藝術家。 \nChen Cheng-Hsiung has enriched Taiwan’s art world through an impressive range of contributions over the course of his career—from his abstract painting\, scholarly research on indigenous and Qing dynasty clothing and jewelry\, art education\, academic publications on abstract art\, to his promotion of Taiwan’s artists to the international stage. These diverse roles established Chen as an early voice in cross-disciplinary dialogue\, weaving together his theoretical work and traditional collecting practices in a distinctive approach to artistic creation. \nA pivotal moment in Chen’s artistic journey came in 1966 when he began collecting clothing and objects of the indigenous peoples of Taiwan\, drawing inspiration from their vibrant colors and abstract patterns for his own work. Years later\, in 1993\, he toured the Beijing Palace Museum\, Shenyang Palace Museum\, and British Museum and found himself similarly fascinated with the displayed imperial garments\, leading him to build and study a collection of Qing dynasty clothing. The depth of these influences can be seen in the striking connections between Chen’s lyrical abstract paintings and his collected objects\, particularly in his sophisticated use of color; his approach to color relationships echoes contemporary design principles\, lending his work a modern sensibility while reinforcing his contributions to cross-disciplinary artistic practice. \nChen’s biography was written by the renowned Paris-based artist Chang Tzu-wei\, who captured the essence of Chen’s work in the work’s title\, An Ode to Joy on Canvas. This celebration of the delight Chen’s art brings to viewers stems in part to the natural musicality and flow of Chen’s brushstrokes\, infusing his works with the essence of the four seasons. This essence conveys a sense of convergence across time and his works—whether amid urban clamor or introspective contemplation—speak to the unique atmospheres of each season: the emergent lushness of spring\, the charming brilliance of summer\, the tranquility of autumn and the somber chill of winter. \nIn this exhibition—Chen Cheng-Hsiung at 90:An Abstract Painter and His Collection—KMFA aims to illuminate the cultural dimensions of Chen’s artwork through his collected objects. For instance\, his collection of indigenous pieces reveals marine elements that find direct expression in his own abstract paintings of the lyrical ocean. Moreover\, the dialogue between East and West emerges clearly in his “Window” and “Digital Space” series\, where calligraphic lines resonate with embroidered patterns\, Chen’s bold use of color extending beyond the traditionally Eastern medium while also incorporating the essence of Western abstraction. This artistic fusion brings to mind Liu Yuxi’s meditation in Record of the Dong Clan’s Wula Collection\, where he notes that “the scene emerges beyond the work”. In this way\, Chen’s work first strikes viewers with its commanding presence\, but deeper contemplation reveals intricate details that delicately embellish his artistic vision.

Forging Miracles
DESCRIPTION:弦音迴響 樂聖的音樂奇蹟 \n無盡旋律 深摯交織 \n作品130與《大賦格》全篇呈現 \n見證古典樂壇史上不朽之作 \nResonance of Strings\, the Musical Miracles of Beethoven \nInterwoven melodies\, profound and infinite \nA complete performance of Op. 130 and the Grosse Fuge \nExperience one of the immortal masterpieces in classical music history \n \nInfinite首席四重奏是由前NSO國家交響樂團首席李宜錦所率領，匯聚台灣中生代頂尖音樂家所組成的指標性四重奏團。 \nInfinite \nLed by former NSO concertmaster Yi-Chin Lee\, the Infinite Principal Quartet brings together Taiwan’s finest mid-generation musicians. Recognized as a pioneering chamber ensemble\, they gained acclaim for their six-year Bartók Complete Cycle project\, a landmark in Taiwan’s music scene. Now in the fourth year of their Beethoven Late String Quartet Project\, they delve into the master’s groundbreaking works with exceptional artistry and insight. \nBeethoven’s late string quartets are some of the most profound and intricate works of his career\, renowned for their daring harmonies and unconventional rhythms that challenged the musical norms of their time. For performers\, these quartets are not only a test of technical skill but also an exploration of spiritual depth. \nThis program features String Quartet No. 13 in B-flat major\, Op. 130\, celebrated for its unique six-movement structure and introspective emotional depth. Written in the twilight of Beethoven’s life\, the music resonates like whispers from his soul\, capturing the interplay of struggle and hope. \nOriginally conceived as the final movement of Op. 130\, the Grosse Fuge (Op. 133) was later published as a standalone piece. Renowned for its structural complexity and profound brilliance\, Stravinsky once described it as “the most perfect miracle in music”. \nThe evening will also include Schubert’s String Quartet No. 12 in c minor\, Quartettsatz. This incomplete work contains a single movement that begins with a hypnotic\, repeated pianissimo\, transitioning rapidly between contrasts of darkness\, agitation and lyricism. \nWith their masterful precision and thoughtful interpretation\, Infinite Principal Quartet embarks on the latter half of their Beethoven project with unparalleled passion. This performance invites audiences to witness the immortal legacy of two German-Austrian musical titans in a singular evening of chamber music. You’ll learn how to blend tea\, assemble personalized tea bags\, and print traditional tea box marks\, experiencing the aesthetics of tea packaging while embracing the warmth and subtleties of tea culture. All creations can be taken home as personal keepsakes or heartfelt gifts to share the fragrant memory with friends and loved ones. \nThe “Mark Head” is a stencil used in traditional tea trade—words carved into metal plates\, affixed to wooden tea boxes and printed using oil-based ink. \nIn the past\, when shipping tea\, Sin Hong Choon Tea Museum would stencil the name and contents onto tea crates using a “mark head”—a metal stencil fixed to the outside of wooden boxes\, with ink brushed over it to label the tea inside. \nFor this event\, we’ve transformed this old-school printing technique into a movable-type stamp experience. Participants will get a chance to try this printing process and create a one-of-a-kind souvenir\, reliving a traditional part of the tea shipment process while taking home a tangible piece of tea history.

Rolling Reels\, Glowing Dreams: The Cinematic Life of Mr. Airplane
\n“When I was a kid\, I was obsessed with movies. Showing films was my greatest joy…” \nMr. Airplane grew up in the heart of Tainan City. As a boy\, he would tug at the sleeves of adults in front of the cinema\, begging to be taken in to watch a film. After graduating from elementary school\, he became an apprentice in a projection room\, learning to operate reel film projectors. \nIn 1950s Tainan\, movie theaters flourished and were the heart of entertainment. Western and East Asian films were all the rage—James Bond\, Raiders of the Lost Ark\, and famed Japanese actor Akira Kobayashi left lasting impressions in Mr. Airplane’s mind. \nOver his decades-long career as a film projectionist\, Mr. Airplane worked at five or six different cinemas. When he talks about running films from theater to theater\, the mechanics of projecting film reels\, or being treated to shrimp rice by the boss during Lunar New Year\, it feels like time rewinds and Tainan’s golden age of cinema plays again before your eyes. \nHowever\, that glorious era slowly faded with time. As cinemas closed down one after another\, projectionists like Mr. Airplane lost their livelihood\, which eventually contributed to him becoming unhoused. \nBut years later\, Mr. Airplane now uses his storytelling skills—nurtured by a lifetime of watching films—to share his life stories with others. On this special day\, follow Mr. Airplane into the world of film reels and discover his remarkable past. Rise and Fall of Film Reels / Screening of Classic Japanese Film Clips \n｜15:05-15:30 離開放映室之後：飛機的人生故事分享 + Q&A Life After the Projection Room: Personal Story of Mr. Airplane + Q&A \n｜15:30-15:40 休息一下 Short Break \n｜15:40-16:00 芒草心組織介紹 + 交流時間 Mang Grassroots Charity Introduction + Group Sharing \n※本流程僅供參考，當日可能會有所調整，敬請見諒 Schedule is subject to change on the event day \n報名 To apply：https://www.accupass.com/eflow/ticket/2503040737051716130018?utm_campaign=accu_banner&utm_medium=home_north&utm_source=Web \n📽️ 講者介紹 Speaker Profile \n🎞️ 前膠捲電影放映師／無家經驗者 飛機先生 Former Film Projectionist / Lived Experience of Homelessness – Mr. Airplane \n飛機先生目前偶爾在台北車站M8出口駐點販售大誌雜誌。 \nNow an occasional vendor of The Big Issue Taiwan at Taipei Main Station Exit M8\, Mr. Airplane is a passionate film enthusiast and former projectionist with deep insights into classic cinema. SUMMARY:數位媒體設計系 Department of Digital Media Design｜第22屆畢業展 22nd Graduation Exhibition「D-mart」
\nThe 22nd Graduation Exhibition of Department of Digital Media Design at MCU\, titled “D-mart”\, will be held in two sessions: the on-campus exhibition will take place from April 21 to 24 on the first floor of the Design Building\, Taoyuan Campus; the off-campus exhibition will be part of YODEX from May 9 to 12 at TAINEX Hall 2\, 4th Floor\, Booth E-08. \nThis year’s theme\, “D-mart”\, draws inspiration from the concept of a convenience store. The letter “D” stands not only for “Design” but also symbolizes the close connection between design and everyday life. Just as convenience stores are indispensable in urban living\, design plays an essential role in our daily experiences—not only present in products and services but also influencing how we live\, interact\, and feel. The logo creatively transforms the letter “D” into a smiling face\, expressing the warmth and joy of design\, aiming to bring visitors a delightful experience while exploring the D-mart concept store. \nIn today’s digital era\, digital media is as diverse and accessible as the offerings in a convenience store—available anytime\, anywhere and ready to meet various needs. This versatility empowers designers to unleash their full creativity and potential to enhance our living environments\, making everyday life more convenient and enjoyable. “Design not only serves the public but also serves the designers themselves.” D-mart aims to bridge designers and the public\, exploring the limitless possibilities of design together. \nThe exhibition will showcase 40 outstanding projects across four categories: 2D/3D animation\, games\, interactive multimedia and film/video production. Everyone from the university community is warmly invited to visit and enjoy this vibrant showcase of creativity and innovation.
