Tate Modern\, UK Exhibition
\nJoseph Mallord William Turner (1775-1851)\, Britain’s greatest painter\, is known as the “Painter of Light”. Through his exceptional control of color and light\, he vividly captured the movement and power of nature\, redefining the meaning of landscape painting. \n2025 marks the 250th anniversary of William Turner’s birth. The Tate Modern in London has launched a series of commemorative events\, titled “Turner 250”. The highlight is the largest-ever global touring exhibition of William Turner’s work: “William Turner: Sublime Echoes”. Following stops in Monaco and Shanghai\, the exhibition will return to Taiwan in June of this year. Featuring 80 authentic works by Turner\, including drawings\, oil paintings\, and watercolors\, the exhibition fully captures his remarkable creative journey\, making it Taiwan’s most significant art event of the year! \n⊳英國泰德美術館 Tate Modern\, UK \n從私人收藏到國家級美術館 打破傳統博物館思維的藝術機構 \nFrom private collection to national art museum\, an art institution that breaks the traditional museum mentality \n英國泰德美術館於1897年由利物浦糖商亨利·泰德（Henry Tate）爵士創立，早年以國家藝廊的方向發展，至今在英國已有四座美術館的規模，包括歷史最悠久的泰德不列顛美術館（Tate Britain） 、英國北方藝術重鎮泰德利物浦美術館（Tate Liverpool）、深耕在地文化發展的泰德聖艾夫斯美術館（Tate St Ives）、以及人氣最旺的泰德現代美術館（Tate Modern）等。 \nFounded in 1897 by Liverpool sugar merchant Sir Henry Tate\, the Tate Gallery in the UK initially developed as a national gallery. Today\, it encompasses four galleries in the UK: Tate Britain\, the oldest; Tate Liverpool\, a major hub for Northern art; Tate St Ives\, deeply engaged in local cultural development; and Tate Modern\, the most popular. As the UK’s most representative and highly visited gallery\, the Tate Gallery boasts a collection encompassing 500 years of British and Western art\, with a particularly significant collection of masterpieces by William H. The hundreds of paintings and tens of thousands of watercolors and drawings donated by Turner during his final years are among the most sought-after and must-see attractions. In recent years\, the Tate Modern has pioneered thematic exhibitions that transcend timelines\, establishing it as one of the most forward-thinking art museums in the world. \n全球史上最大規模 威廉．透納真跡畫展首度登台 \nThe world’s largest exhibition of William Turner’s authentic paintings debuts in Taiwan \n威廉·透納在世時就創立了基金，意在幫助貧窮的藝術家，這也成為泰德美術館成立英國最著名的藝術獎「透納獎」最重要的原因。 \nDuring his lifetime\, William Turner established a fund to aid impoverished artists\, a key reason for the Tate Modern to establish the Turner Prize\, Britain’s most prestigious art award. After his death\, some of his paintings were bequeathed to the nation\, while the majority remain at the Tate Modern. As the largest collection of Turner’s works\, the Tate Modern will present 80 authentic Turner paintings\, organized into seven sections: English Landscapes\, the Alps\, Venice\, Storms at Sea\, Between Sea and Sky\, Historical Stories\, and Sublime Aesthetics\, spanning his career. To highlight the defining era of Turner’s work\, the Tate Modern has also selected nearly 30 works by contemporary artists\, creating an unprecedented\, largest\, and most comprehensive exhibition dedicated to William Turner. Highlights of the exhibition area \n⊳始於英國風景 Starting from the British landscape \n透納因早期探索英國風景，而成為大自然崇高力量的熱情觀察者，他詳細描繪這些自然的景象，更讓他聲名遠播。 \nTurner’s early explorations of the English landscape established him as a passionate observer of the sublime power of nature\, and his meticulous depiction of these natural scenes further cemented his fame. To authentically capture the atmosphere of his surroundings\, Turner often immersed himself in nature for research\, incorporating on-site sketches\, memory\, and imagination into his paintings\, transforming these elements into breathtaking compositions. （Landscape Composition with a Ruined Castle on a Cliff）約瑟夫·馬洛德·威廉·透納（Joseph Mallord William Turner），1792–3。（圖片來源：TATE） \nLandscape Composition with a Ruined Castle on a Cliff by Joseph Mallord William Turner\, 1792–3. Walk into the mountains \n透納在1802年第一次遊歷歐洲時，立即受到阿爾卑斯山的壯麗景色強烈吸引。 \nOn his first trip to Europe in 1802\, Turner was instantly captivated by the majestic beauty of the Alps. He began exploring the mountains\, documenting his experiences firsthand through sketches and watercolors. Turner was also captivated by the unique light and atmosphere of the mountains. He observed the reflections of colors in snow\, water\, and sky\, completing thousands of elementary studies and applying unexpectedly bold colors to striking effect. His mastery of light and color inspired Monet and the French Impressionists\, and his innovative techniques have influenced generations of artists. （Brunnen\, from the Lake of Lucerne: Sample Study）約瑟夫·馬洛德·威廉·透納（Joseph Mallord William Turner），1843-5。（圖片來源：TATE） \nBrunnen\, from the Lake of Lucerne: Sample Study by Joseph Mallord William Turner\, 1843-5. \nIn the 18th century\, Turner lived in a world where paintings that vividly depicted myths or biblical stories were considered the most noble form of fine art. Most paintings tended towards a poetic and picturesque classicism. However\, Turner broke new ground. He employed classical scenes and innovative painting techniques to create paintings that were less idealistic\, more emotionally affecting\, and in line with emerging tastes. His works not only won the admiration of his contemporaries\, but also amazed viewers for centuries to come. （Story of Apollo and Daphne）約瑟夫·馬洛德·威廉·透納（Joseph Mallord William Turner），1837。（圖片來源：TATE） \nStory of Apollo and Daphne by Joseph Mallord William Turner\, 1837. \nOf the many artists who have depicted Venice\, Turner is one of the few who has found an emotional connection with the unique character of this magnificent water city. His career is remarkable for its achievements and innovations\, and his paintings of Venice were immediately recognized as some of his most magical and dazzling works upon their first viewing. To this day\, Turner’s vision remains uniquely significant\, capturing both the beauty and sadness of Venice\, and the terrifying threat of the sea swallowing it. （圖片來源：TATE） \nVenice – Maria della Salute\, Joseph Mallord William Turner\, 1844. \nSeascapes comprise over half of Turner’s oeuvre\, including paintings of whaling vessels\, fishing boats\, shipwrecks and battles. These are his most explosive and evocative works\, capturing the perils of the ocean and humanity’s insignificance and powerlessness in the face of nature. （‘Hurrah! for the Whaler Erebus! Another Fish!’） （圖片來源：TATE） \n‘Hurrah! for the Whaler Erebus! Another Fish!’ Joseph Mallord William Turner\, 1846. Between Sea and Sky \n透納不僅在畫作中體現大自然的偉大力量，更強調其具有詩意和催眠的特質。 \nTurner not only captured the majestic power of nature in his paintings\, but also emphasized its poetic and hypnotic qualities. His depictions of sea and sky involved hundreds of close studies of details such as drifting clouds\, energetic waves\, and surging surf. These details\, when viewed together\, reveal Turner’s profound awe for both the sea and the sky. （圖片來源：TATE） \nThe Blue Rigi\, Sunrise\, Joseph Mallord William Turner\, 1842. \nIn his later years\, Turner produced numerous paintings that depict purely light and atmospheric elements. These abstract works\, containing minimal figurative or topographical elements\, were often considered “unfinished” at the time. However\, the number of such works preserved in Turner’s studio suggests that he had completed them to his satisfaction. These works\, embodying Turner’s late style\, earned him the reputation of a prophet of modern painting. （圖片來源：TATE） \nThree Seascapes by Joseph Mallord William Turner\, 1827. \nCurator Elizabeth Brooke noted that the Tate Modern has never loaned such a large number of Turner works at once\, including over 40 oil paintings. This will be the largest-ever global touring exhibition. The exhibition will showcase William Turner’s defining influence on painting and the representation of the sublime in Western art through dialogue with works by nearly 30 leading artists\, including John Akonfa\, Olafur Eliasson\, Richard Long\, Cornelia Parker\, Katie Patterson\, Mark Roscoe and Jessica Worboys. She added\, “2025 marks the 250th anniversary of Turner’s birth\, making this summer’s exhibition in Taiwan even more meaningful. One of the most eye-catching works\, ‘Blue Rigi\, Sunrise’\, will return to the Tate Modern for a 10-year period after its tour. We sincerely invite everyone to seize this rare opportunity and witness the magic of William Turner’s art firsthand.” \n報名 To apply：https://www.opentix.life/event/1914580546594426880?srsltid=AfmBOoqBCcUaWmpgrEL_eEsR88CAgAZgnJDtCO3StRLfEB80Eintm17T

DESCRIPTION:當我們一起，那些難以言喻的美好才會發生 \nWhen we are together\, beauty beyond words unfolds. \nNow in its eighth year\, the PlayArts Festival continues to ask: What else can we play? How else can we gather? And how can a “place” become something open\, ever-evolving\, and unprescribed? These questions form the core method of the festival’s existence\, hoping that every gathering will spark a chemical reaction between audience and space\, artwork and body. This point of transformation is exactly what the festival seeks this year: the Sweet Spot. \nOriginally a sports term\, the “sweet spot” refers to the ideal point of contact with a ball—where force\, angle\, and speed align to create a perfect dynamic balance. But the “sweet spot” we seek is more than just a moment of impact. It’s not a one-way result\, but a state generated through encounters\, exchanges\, and the act of participation itself. \n“Some moments aren’t perfect\, but they land just right. That’s your sweet spot.” \nWe invite the audience to explore how art sparks in the process of playing and gathering. Between individual and collective\, control and chance\, we search for those just-right moments through the interaction between performer and viewer. \nThis year’s curation moves beyond simply watching—it starts with you. Your choices\, your rhythm\, and your senses may generate your own sweet spot:It might happen as you gaze at a solo performance and suddenly recognize yourself in an overlooked character…Or when you repair an old item and remember a story you’ve never told…Or when you sway to music on a grassy field and share a wordless glance with a stranger…These are not choreographed scenes—they arise because of your participation\, resonating with yourself\, others\, and the world in that moment. \nThis year’s festival features outdoor music performances rich in emotion and bodily rhythm\, a series of intimate solo encounters\, diverse hands-on workshops where your touch brings memory to life through images\, and alternative events such as immersive game experiences and live podcast sessions. These open up more ways to connect—letting the audience experience the rhythm of empathy between creation and participation\, discovering their sweet spot through play and gathering. \nThe 2025 PlayArts Festival continues—As long as you’re willing to place yourself in the mix\, we won’t tell you where the sweet spot is. Instead\, we invite you to tune in and play together. You tell us: what is your Sweet Spot? \nFree Admission｜Open to All \n報名 To apply：https://www.accupass.com/eflow/ticket/2507290758561072737178?utm_campaign=accu_theme&utm_medium=home_north&utm_source=Web \n更多節目資訊請見 For more information\, visit： \n玩聚場藝術節官方網站 PlayArts Festival Website：https://playarts.clab.org.tw/ \n玩聚場Facebook PlayArts Festival Facebook：https://www.facebook.com/playarts.clab

Event Planning that Captures Attention at First Glance
❞ \n❝ Memorable events start with thoughtful planning and design. \n✓ What should an event say? How should it be presented? How do you grab attention?✓ How to integrate the theme\, content\, and pacing to create a clear and engaging participant experience?✓ Starting from strategy\, event planning is about designing how audiences understand and engage with the event. \nHow can an event attract attention and spark curiosity? In an era where information density keeps increasing and participation formats grow more diverse\, “planning skills” determine whether an event can be seen\, understood and remembered. \nFrom naming\, language\, and visuals to scenario design\, planning shapes the content while guiding the audience on how to enter\, understand and participate. Seeing the Light Beyond the Spectrum
\nHello\, I’m Monica Chung. \nWhen I was a child\, the concept of the autism spectrum didn’t really exist. I was often told\, “Look people in the eyes when you speak”\, “Stand still\, don’t fidget” and when I couldn’t bear noisy places\, I was told to “endure it”. In unfamiliar\, crowded places\, I was told to “be outgoing”. I was expected to speak politely and not be “rude”. When I had meltdowns and cried uncontrollably\, my family would shout back at me even louder or physically punish me. Over time\, I stopped expressing myself and stopped listening to my inner voice. I grew numb to many things—after all\, everything I did seemed to be wrong. Every part of me was something to be “corrected”. \nSo I started wearing a mask and performed a version of myself that others could accept. I did this for over 30 years. \nBut constantly wearing a mask and denying my truest self left me feeling profoundly lonely. No one truly understood me. Eventually\, my mental health deteriorated and I developed severe depression and anxiety. Then\, five years ago\, I was diagnosed with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder). Suddenly\, everything in my life made sense. From that point on\, I began learning to embrace who I really am\, and life started to flow more smoothly. In 2022\, I published a book titled Turns Out\, I Have Autism\, hoping to help more people understand autism from the perspective of someone who experiences it. I’ve since been devoted to promoting self-acceptance among those on the autism spectrum. \nLast year\, I gave a TEDxTalk titled: “How Can People on the Autism Spectrum Live a Happy Life?”https://rb.gy/5p2x4bIn this talk\, I encouraged people on the spectrum to better understand and embrace their own traits in order to coexist harmoniously with the world. \nThis ASD sharing lecture is one of the few in Taiwan led by a person on the spectrum. I will guide attendees through the world of ASD\, sharing firsthand insights into behaviors that may seem unusual or strange to neurotypical individuals. I’ll also introduce new global perspectives on neurodiversity and leave time for a Q&A session. \nBecause I want to engage with each attendee personally\, this will be a small-scale lecture. I hope everyone can come prepared with a few questions so we can discuss them together. \nOriginally\, this talk was designed for parents of children with ASD to help them better understand their kids. But after hearing from others who also wanted to attend\, I decided to open it up to all adults. However\, to maintain a smooth and focused environment\, only registered adult participants will be admitted on the day—no children\, please. Thank you for understanding 🙏🏻 \nAs I need to rent the venue\, coordinate various logistics\, and invest time\, energy\, and mental effort in preparing this lecture\, it will be a paid event. \n報名 To apply：https://www.accupass.com/eflow/ticket/2505260744311302759805?utm_campaign=accu_banner&utm_medium=home_north&utm_source=Web

The entire performance was led by conductor Zhang Jiayun \, who is known for her sharp sense of rhythm and dramatic control. She is good at extracting and advancing the multi-part interweaving of percussion and national music\, pushing the audio-visual tension to the limit and leading the audience into the flow of music. \nThe program was full of excitement. The grand opening of “Zhuolu Fantasy” presented an epic duel on an ancient battlefield; “White Snake Fantasy” blended legendary stories and depicted love\, sorrow and joy with percussion colors; “Drama. Song. Zen” integrated theatrical body movements with the dialogue between Eastern and Western sounds\, showing the tension of cooperative competition and the flow of Zen in interaction and resonance; in the second half\, Lin Yanxing\, a young musician of Taiwan’s national music star project\, was invited to perform “String Songs on the Frontier” composed by Li Binyang\, which was based on Du Fu’s poem “The March of the Chariots” and outlined the customs and people of the frontier. The piece is full of literary sentiments\, showing the young performers’ delicate interpretation and unrestrained tension; “Searching for the Roots of Ancient Sophora Tree” extends with simple melodies\, looking for inner memories in the notes; the finale “Flower Island” uses folk songs related to flowers from various ethnic groups in Taiwan as its material\, interweaving Taiwan’s diverse cultural features through rich orchestration and harmony\, creating a passionate and moving finale. \n2025 Taoyuan National Music Festival Closing Concert is a cross-border resonance and artistic dialogue that combines tradition and modernity\, new and classic\, percussion and national music. Additionally\, YouBike 2.0 (Dadaocheng Wharf Station) services will be suspended and Taipei City Riverside Bike Rental Center (Dadaocheng Station) situated within the event area closed between 18:00 and 21:30; no bicycle rental services will be available between those times. \nFor the safety of the crowds of visitors watching fireworks\, Department of Information and Tourism would like to remind visitors that the sidewalks on Zhongxiao Bridge and Taipei Bridge will be closed to pedestrians between 19:00 and 21:00 on Wednesdays (these restrictions may be lifted earlier depending on the circumstances); the Earth’s Reappearance land bridge and Dunhuang Scenic Platform\, which connect Dihua Recreational Sports Park to the bicycle path outside the floodwall\, will also be cleared. Due to the large number of people attending the festival\, Taipei City Mall exit Y27 will be exit-only between 8:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. on Wednesdays. Festival-goers\, please take note. \nFour themed fireworks displays will take place during this year’s Taipei Summer Festival. Five-minute displays will take place on August 6\, 13 and 20\, and an eight-minute grand finale display will be held on August 30. Each display will be accompanied by music\, creating a summer feast for the senses. Businesses and district leaders were consulted during the initial planning phases of this year’s event. Most businesses reported that weekday events help boost business opportunities. For example\, last year’s fireworks day saw a significant increase in sales in the commercial district\, and weekday hotel occupancy rates rose by over 30%\, demonstrating that zoned events can help boost tourism and encourage consumer spending. \nBut there will be more than just the grand finale fireworks display to enjoy on August 30. At 15:00\, the Cheng Sings concert will begin at Yong Le Market in Dadaocheng. Visitors can enjoy an afternoon of music and shopping\, browsing the hipster-style brand market and discovering unique products. This year the festival is also partnering with over 50 local businesses in the Dadaocheng commercial district. During the festival period\, purchases of NT$500 or more can be redeemed at Dadaocheng Visitor Center for a limited-edition Dadaocheng mosquito repellent pouch\, exclusive to the festival. Take a stroll around Dadaocheng and pick up one of these gifts to take home with you. \nThe fireworks displays are expected to attract large crowds every Wednesday night. To maintain order and traffic safety\, additional personnel will be deployed around Dadaocheng Wharf to assist with traffic control. Remote reminders will also be sent out via CMS (Parking Information System). The public is strongly encouraged to use public transportation to reach the fireworks displays. When taking the Taipei Metro\, get off at Beimen\, Daqiaotou or Shuanglian MRT stations. Visitors can shop for souvenirs or enjoy dinner in the Dihua commercial district before walking to Dadaocheng Wharf to enjoy the fireworks and the night view of the river. For more information on the festival and related traffic restrictions\, please visit Travel Taipei website (https://www.travel.taipei/). \n \n

SUMMARY:穿霧之境 The Realm of Mist｜臺灣霧林帶的文化流動 Life Ecosystem of Forests ＆Mist
\nWater is formless\, yet ever-shifting in its many expressions.\nIt becomes mist\, drifting through low hills and awakening the breath of slumbering forests;\nIt becomes rivers\, carving through the folds of the land\, etching the passage of time;\nIt becomes lakes\, quietly reflecting light and the memory of the past.\nIn its constant dance between motion and stillness\, water shapes the landscape—and evokes cultural memories of harmony between people and nature. \nThe Realm of Mist is a sensory journey guided by water and shrouded in mist. It leads us deep into Taiwan’s foothills and forested terrains. The exhibition begins with The First Form of Water: Forest Language in the Drizzle\, where mist—the earliest form of water—summons primal sensory connections between humans and the nature. It then flows into The Shifting Form of Water: The Interlacing of Rivers and Terrain\, where rivers trace stories of migration and cultural change. Finally\, it arrives at The Resting Form of Water: Settlements Reflected in Stillness\, where calm waters mirror the traces of everyday life and spiritual belief. \nAs mist\, river\, and lake\, water quietly reshapes itself—connecting nature and culture\, sensation and memory\, the present and what’s to come.\nThrough the mist\, we once again listen to water’s ancient language—feeling a silent current rooted deep in the land.

SUMMARY:接海之島 The Island of Seascapes｜臺灣山海的文化生態 Cultural Ecosystem of Seas ＆Mountains
\nThe Island of Seascapes takes Water Societies as its curatorial core\, exploring the multilayered relationship between people\, water\, and the environment through the island’s geography and cultural contexts. \nThe centerpiece is a large woven installation suspended in midair—composed of agricultural scaffolding\, fishing ropes and sea salt. It symbolizes the life-forms that emerge from coexistence with water\, shaping a sensory\, ever-shifting cultural landscape. Beneath it\, a reflective space unfolds\, interwoven with light and shadow\, showcasing films\, documentaries\, photography\, and books to compose a narrative-rich and immersive water society. \nThe exhibition presents 25 film and video works spanning different eras\, features contributions from six visual artists and photographers\, and offers nearly 40 books. These explore river and ocean ecologies\, survival experiences\, belief systems\, cultural memory\, and urban transformation. Through the layering of time\, space\, and perspective\, viewers enter a dialectical and sensory mode of reading\, and reflect on the flow and transformative nature of cultural memory and social structures. \nWith its open curatorial structure\, The Island of Seascapes invites audiences to freely connect with the materials\, shaping their own personal pathways of understanding. \nThis is not merely an exhibition about water—but a space for cultural dialogue and imagining the future.

SUMMARY:有河之靈The Spirit of Water｜臺灣水體的精神生態 The Spiritual Ecosystem of Water Body
\nAcross the continents\, oceans connect the world—yet water has always stirred complex emotions.\nAmniotic fluid is our first home; the ocean\, the origin of all life. Water marks both the beginning of existence and the place where culture and belief intertwine. \nWhen shapeless water takes form—as shifting rivers\, unfathomable lakes or immeasurable seas—it becomes an “otherworld”\, set apart from land. We fear its depth\, yet imbue it with boundless imagination. \nIn Taiwan’s diverse water beliefs\, Indigenous myths describe ancestors emerging from the ocean or migrating to the mountains after great floods. On the plains\, tales speak of the “blind serpent” that swells rivers and reshapes their course. Communities have dug wells\, built irrigation channels\, and held rituals to honor water spirits. The Siraya people offered ancestral rites with jars of water; coastal villagers send divine boats across the sea to ward off disease. \nThe Spirit of Water gathers these memories and beliefs into an abstract model of Taiwan’s landscape. The terrain flows from mountain streams to river mouths. Visitors first glimpse the highlands\, then descend into an underworld river\, weaving through gods and mortals\, past rivers\, canals\, and estuaries—before returning to the source. Amid rising and falling terrain\, one encounters the rituals\, crafts\, and stories of Taiwan’s many communities\, and journeys through a realm quietly guided by the spirits of water.

IEAGD lnternational Exhibition of Architecture Graduation Design: MCU Architecture Student Hsu Ju-Hsin Selected to Exhibit
\nOn June 23\, Chinese Institute of Urban Design announced the list of Taiwanese student participants for 14th IEAGD lnternational Exhibition of Architecture Graduation Design (2025). MCU Department of Architecture graduate Hsu Ju-Hsin was selected for her project “Traces of Temperature”\, which earned a spot in the “Taiwan 20” list. Her work will represent Taiwan alongside top architecture students from Japan\, Hong Kong\, Singapore\, and other regions at the international exhibition and critique event held August 1–17 at Underground Experimental Field of Taipei National University of Arts. \nHsu Ju-Hsin’s graduation project\, “Traces of Temperature”\, was guided by Professor Chen Wei-Ning and takes Beitou Park as its base. It explores the relationship between sulfur\, vegetation\, climate\, architecture\, and humans. Her project was favored by one of the six curators\, architect Chou Shu-Hsien\, principal of Chou Shu-Hsien Architects\, and was ultimately selected as part of the “Taiwan 20”. \nThrough close observation of daily life\, Hsu discovered that architecture is not merely a vessel for activities\, but also a potential medium that indirectly connects nature and people\, or events and people. She transformed this idea of indirectness into a behavioral concept: “measuring”. This is not the precision of instruments quantifying data\, but rather a sensory process of perceiving\, recording\, and becoming aware of natural changes through the body\, materials and space. \nIn spatial terms\, such behavior can manifest through changes in materials\, perception of air temperature and humidity\, the spread of vegetation\, and tactile bodily experiences. Hsu believes architecture can serve as a medium for measuring the flows of nature\, the marks of time\, and the relationships between people and their environment. Through design techniques\, she gives form to these subtle traces and changes\, enabling users to perceive the presence and transformation of their surroundings—and reminding us of the need to maintain a balanced and responsive relationship between the natural and the man-made. \nLaunched in 2012\, the IEAGD lnternational Exhibition of Architecture Graduation Design is a pioneering cross-border platform for architectural graduation work. It promotes international exchange and enhances the depth and global perspective of Taiwan’s architectural education. This year\, six curators reviewed graduation projects from architecture departments nationwide and selected only 20 entries. These works will represent Taiwan and engage in international dialogue with students from Japan\, Hong Kong and Singapore in the exhibition and series of critique sessions held from August 1 to 17.
