Workshop
\n“Taiwan Aesthetic” (대만감성) has recently surged in popularity on Korean social media. Photographer Wang Cheng-Hsiang\, known for approaching photography through the lens of art history\, will lead participants in capturing the poetry of everyday life around Gongguan using cameras and smartphones. Reading the Story of Hong Kong's Postwar Architecture
\nAfter the end of World War II in 1945\, Hong Kong’s population rose rapidly\, and the city underwent dramatic transformation. A great number of public and private buildings emerged as symbols of modernization\, carrying with them the ideals of the era\, traces of everyday life\, and markers of cultural change. Yet\, amid high-density living and fast-paced urban redevelopment\, many of these buildings have gradually been overlooked\, demolished\, or forgotten. \nThis new book talk features Michelle Ho\, one of the authors of Hong Kong’s Postwar Architecture Archives. She will share how she revisited an era she never personally experienced—through examining old archives\, collecting and redrawing images—and how everyday observations became a lens to read Hong Kong’s urban history. She will also discuss architectural archives and spatial stories that were left out of the publication\, as well as reflect on the dilemmas and challenges of preserving postwar architecture in Asia. \nIn Taiwan\, we face similar issues regarding the preservation of postwar architecture. This talk is not only a retrospective on Hong Kong’s buildings but also a cross-regional dialogue. It invites the audience to consider: How do we move from research to preservation action? How can we\, from archival reconstruction to everyday walks\, rediscover and cherish the spaces around us? \n\n◖講座資訊 Event Details◗ \n日　　期 Date｜9/26 ㊄ 19:00-20:30（18:40開放報到 check-in from 18:40）\n地　　點 Venue｜王大閎書軒 DH Café（台北市中山區中山北路三段153號 No. 153\, Sec. 3\, Zhongshan N. Overtime\, reports\, meetings\, KPIs—these terms incessantly remind us of our mental and physical exhaustion\, to the point where being a corporate slave feels even more tiring than being a pet at home! “I wish to be a cat in my next life” has become a deep-seated desire for many. Imagine living a carefree life like a cat—how wonderful that would be! A cat’s day is simple and leisurely—they sleep\, hunt for food\, cuddle\, play\, and live without conflict\, basking in unconditional love and trust while savoring every moment of the present. As they stretch out under the warm sun\, can we also learn from them how to regain inner peace and reconnect with ourselves? \nFor the 8th Taipei Illustration Fair in 2025\, we take inspiration from the theme “I Wish to Be a Cat in My Next Life” and invite everyone to explore this world of simplicity and ease. The artworks do not necessarily have to feature cats\, but through various illustrations\, we hope to help people rediscover the simple joys of life and reconnect with their inner spiritual world. \nThese artistic creations aim to inspire audiences to pause amidst their busy lives\, reflecting on how to return their hearts to themselves\, learn to enjoy the present moment\, and embrace inner tranquility. We hope this year’s Illustration Fair will serve as a small turning point in people’s lives\, encouraging them to rethink their life pace and find their own balance and happiness. Through illustration\, we will showcase how to express inner thoughts and seek simple joy and serenity in this complex world. The desire to “be a cat in my next life” and the feline way of life remind us that enjoying the moment and focusing on the present are the keys to finding peace. \n【Last Entry Time】 19:30Priority entry will follow the queue order on-site. In addition to the much-loved card delivery tradition from previous years\, this year introduces a brand-new “In-Class Interaction” segment\, aiming to strengthen the bond between teachers and students through more diverse expressions of gratitude. \nThe event consists of two main parts\, providing students with more ways to show their thanks: \n\n\nIn-Class Interaction: During the lunch break\, student representatives will visit selected classes\, inviting students to handwrite their words of appreciation for their beloved teachers. \n\n\nLetter-Sending Activity: From September 22–25\, 10:00–16:00\, a booth will be set up at Liberty Square (in front of 7-Eleven)\, where cards and mailing assistance will be provided\, ensuring that every message of gratitude reaches its intended teacher. \n\n\nThe Student Association emphasized that Teacher’s Day is not only a time to honor teachers but also a valuable opportunity to foster meaningful connections between teachers and students. Through these warm and thoughtful activities\, we hope our teachers will feel the students’ most genuine blessings and heartfelt gratitude on this special day. \nWe sincerely invite all faculty members and students to take part and join us in adding warmth and color to this meaningful celebration.

This initiative serves as the artery of knowledge\, connecting the three universities along the MRT line\, symbolizing a learning journey without spatial limits. By combining the core concepts of “walking tours” and “knowledge”\, the series aims to encourage faculty and students to integrate reading into everyday life—transforming learning from something confined indoors to something that can happen anytime\, anywhere. It invites participants to experience the dual joys of reading and urban exploration\, infusing new energy into university life. \nThe program features four activity series\, offering freshmen diverse opportunities for learning and discovery: \n\n\n“Walking the Smart Line\, Knowledge on the Go X U3 Library Joint Exhibition” will run from September 18 to October 9 simultaneously at the libraries of all three universities. The exhibition presents five themed reading routes—Freshman Life Station\, Interpersonal Relations Station\, World Exploration Station\, Creative Inspiration Station and Critical Expression Station—to help freshmen quickly adapt to university life while broadening their reading horizons. Participants are encouraged to make full use of the inter-library borrowing and return services across the three schools. \n\n\n“U3 Online Film Festival” will also take place during the same period on Vision Media\, featuring a curated selection of 20 films related to the event themes\, providing students with valuable resources for self-learning and growth. \n\n\n“Reading Express X “U” ‘Easy Travel with U3’” invites all faculty and students to hop aboard the reading train. During the event period\, anyone who borrows three physical books will be eligible for a lucky draw to win a 3D Strap EasyCard. \n\n\nLastly\, the “Freshman Challenge”\, designed for new and transfer students\, will run from September 18 to November 21. By completing fun challenges\, students can easily explore various library resources. Participants will have the chance to win exclusive gifts and grand prizes. (Click here for Taipei Freshman Challenge\, and here for Taoyuan Freshman Challenge.) \n\n\nThis collaborative celebration of knowledge has already begun in full swing! Through the “Walking the Smart Line\, Knowledge on the Go!” series\, freshmen will take reading as a starting point to embark on their university journey of exploration. From themed exhibitions and online film festivals to reading rewards and library challenges\, these activities will guide all faculty and students to grow along the tracks of knowledge\, turning the fragrance of books into life energy. \nExciting events await! Join us in building a bridge of learning between the city and campus\, and open your own smart pathway to university life. For more details\, please visit library event website.
