Rediscovering Architecture & Everyday Life
DESCRIPTION:✦ 本活動為實體講座，需完成報名  \n✦ 限量席次，額滿為止，敬請把握 \n✦ This is an in-person lecture\, and registration is required.✦ Limited seats available—secure your spot now! The Seamless Dialogue Between Architecture & Nature: A Journey from Classics to Contemporary Innovations \n24年前，設計師邱柏文曾在北歐客居一年。 \nTwenty-four years ago\, designer Johnny Chiu spent a year living in Scandinavia. Upon his recent return\, he was struck by how Nordic design has evolved beyond its traditionally perceived minimalist aesthetics\, embracing boldness and dynamism. From BIG (Bjarke Ingels Group)’s avant-garde architectural experiments to Michelin-starred restaurant Noma’s sensory-driven dining experience\, Scandinavia is redefining design in unprecedented ways\, challenging and reshaping our conventional understanding of creativity. \nIn this lecture\, Johnny Chiu will share his firsthand insights and discoveries\, taking you on a journey through Scandinavian design’s remarkable transformations and groundbreaking innovations. \nArchitecture’s Evolution: Merging with Nature in New and Unexpected Ways \nDenmark’s Louisiana Museum of Modern Art is an iconic institution\, known for its seamless integration with nature. But the dialogue between architecture and the environment does not end there. Norway’s Under – Sunken Restaurant further explores the symbiosis of built structures and natural surroundings\, creating an immersive experience that redefines the boundaries of space. As times change\, architecture continues to evolve\, forging new ways to respond to human interaction with nature. When Constraints Spark Creativity: Pushing the Boundaries of Architectural Thinking \n面臨不能破壞歷史遺跡的挑戰，BIG建築事務所將限制轉化為靈感，將丹麥海事博物館（M/S Maritime Museum）沉入地下，巧妙嵌入廢棄船塢，不僅解決場地限制，更展現建築如何在制約中尋找創新可能，挑戰我們對空間的既定想像，也展現出建築不僅適應時代，更能在限制中找到突破口。 \nFaced with the challenge of preserving historical ruins\, BIG (Bjarke Ingels Group) transformed limitations into design inspiration by sinking the Danish Maritime Museum (M/S Maritime Museum) underground\, ingeniously embedding it into a disused dry dock. This innovative solution not only resolved site constraints but also showcased how architecture thrives under restrictions\, challenging our perceptions of spatial design and demonstrating how architectural breakthroughs emerge within constraints. \nSweden’s Stockholm Public Library (Asplund Library) is a 20th-century classic\, symbolizing a temple of knowledge. In contrast\, Finland’s Oodi Helsinki Central Library illustrates how public spaces adapt to modern times\, catering to ever-changing societal needs. Libraries are no longer just repositories for books; they have become the “living rooms” of cities\, fostering community engagement and cultural exchange. \n \n \n講座內容 Lecture Highlights \n．經典與突破：從路易斯安那博物館到水底餐廳，探索北歐建築與自然對話的演變 \n．創意與限制：解析BIG建築事務所如何將丹麥海事博物館的場地挑戰轉為設計亮點 \n．公共空間再定義：對比斯德哥爾摩老圖書館與赫爾辛基頌歌圖書館，見證北歐公共空間的時代演進 \n\nFrom Classic to Cutting-Edge: The evolution of Nordic architecture’s dialogue with nature\, from the Louisiana Museum to Under – Sunken Restaurant.\nCreativity Within Constraints: How BIG turned the site limitations of the Danish Maritime Museum into a design highlight.\nThe Future of Public Spaces: Comparing the Stockholm Public Library with Oodi Helsinki Central Library\, exploring the evolution of public spaces in the Nordic region.\n\n報名 To apply：https://www.accupass.com/eflow/ticket/2502250613176530320700 \n▶▶推薦行程 Recommended Trip：Johnny Chiu帶路前往北歐設計核心 Johnny Chiu’s Exclusive Nordic Design Tour \n風格旅人帶路_邱柏文丹麥設計8日 A Curated 8-Day Danish Design Journey with Johnny Chiu \n講師 Speaker｜邱柏文 Johnny Chiu \n曾於六個以上的國家生活、求學，及工作，他對自身的探索促使他透過實驗性的專案探索地方性，他的設計不僅是創意的表達，更是與社群的對話。 （World Design Experience powered by San Diego Design Week）都能看到他的身影，讓世界體驗台灣的設計文化。 \nWith educational and professional experience across six countries\, Johnny Chiu has developed a unique design philosophy that extends beyond aesthetics—his work is a conversation with communities. The four letters in RUMA stand for Rebellion\, Unity\, Bravery\, and Friendship. Additionally\, in Malay\, “RUMA” means “home.” We hope that while enjoying dragon boating\, our teammates can also become part of the RUMA family\, exercising together and staying healthy together! \n賽事獲獎實績 Team historical performance \n2024新北市議長盃龍舟錦標賽 大型混合龍舟 第7名（共49隊參賽） \n7th place (out of 49 teams)\, 2024 New Taipei City Race\, Standard Boat\, Mixed Open \n2024新北市議長盃龍舟錦標賽 大型混合龍舟 總決賽（5-8名）精彩瞬間 Highlights of 2024 New Taipei City Race Standard Mixed Open\, Grand Final (5th-8th places) \n \n體驗活動流程 Agenda \n\n\n\n時間 Time (am)\n項目 Item\n\n\n8:30\n集合 Meet up\n\n\n8:30-8:45\n岸上划船安全、姿勢、口令說明 Introduction & Instructions\n\n\n8:50-9:00\n熱身 & 著裝上船 Warm-up & boarding\n\n\n9:00-10:15\n上船體驗 Training\n\n\n10:15-10:30\n上岸收操 & 反饋 Cool-down & feedback\n\n\n\n*以上為週六體驗活動時間，週日體驗活動集合時間為7:30。 The above schedule is for the Saturday experience activities. Many of our friends had never even paddled a canoe before coming to try it out\, and quite a few got hooked after just one experience. I don’t know how to swim. What if I fall into the water?\n\n練習時會有專業的舵手掌舵確保練習時的安全，每位上船的朋友也都會穿著救生衣，基本上是不會翻船啦。 During practice\, there will be a professional helmsman to ensure safety\, and everyone on the boat will wear a life jacket. Basically\, it’s very unlikely to capsize. Does dragon boating require a lot of physical strength? I see that everyone in the races has a V-shaped body.\n\n如果有人跟你說划龍舟不累，那他一定是騙你，體能、體態這件事其實還是需要配合飲食控制和持續自我堅持才能維持一定的水準，但我們有隊友加入龍舟隊一年後，配合飲食控制、重訓、划龍舟，體重減了12公斤，體脂降了5%，相信你也可以😄！ If someone tells you that dragon boating isn’t tiring\, they’re definitely lying. Maintaining physical fitness and body shape does require diet control and persistent self-discipline. However\, we have teammates who\, after joining the dragon boat team for a year\, lost 12 kilograms and reduced their body fat by 5% through diet control\, strength training and dragon boating. We believe you can do it too 😄! Do I need to buy any equipment to participate in the event?\n\n不需要喔，我們會準備槳 & 救生衣給你使用。 No\, you don’t. We will provide paddles and life jackets for you.

MCU 68th Anniversary: Alumnus Lin Cheng-Wei Sings His Life Story Through Music
\nThis weekend (March 22)\, MCU celebrates its 68th anniversary with a series of specially planned events to bring together faculty\, students and alumni. One of the highlights of the celebration will be the anniversary ceremony\, featuring a special performance by inspirational singer and MCU alumnus Lin Cheng-Wei. Through his powerful life story and heartfelt music\, Lin will inspire the MCU community to pursue their dreams fearlessly\, embodying the theme “MCU 68: Brilliance in Motion”. \nLin Cheng-Wei\, a graduate of MCU’s Finance Department\, was once a well-known figure on campus\, serving as a Goodwill Ambassador\, the president of Finance Department Student Association\, and even earning the title of Mr. International. However\, in 2007\, a tragic accident left him with a spinal cord injury\, resulting in full-body paralysis. Despite the immense challenges\, he refused to give up. After two years of rehabilitation\, he returned to campus and\, in 2010\, was honored with MCU Spirit Award in recognition of his perseverance\, courage and determination. \nNow\, Lin returns to his alma mater to perform on the anniversary stage\, proving that even though he cannot walk\, he can still fly. Through music\, he will share his incredible journey of resilience\, demonstrating how one can create infinite value despite physical limitations. His heartfelt performance aims to uplift and inspire the entire MCU community. On this special day\, Lin will be joined by blind musician Nuji\, performing two songs: “銘傳尚勇” and “你是我的眼”—both carrying deep messages of bravery\, determination and hope. \nFor 68 years\, MCU has remained committed to academic excellence\, nurturing countless outstanding talents\, and promoting diverse and inclusive education. This year’s anniversary theme\, “MCU 68: Brilliance in Motion”\, not only reflects the university’s dynamic growth and progress but also serves as a reminder that\, like Lin Cheng-Wei\, every MCU student and faculty member can overcome challenges\, hold onto their beliefs and create an extraordinary life story.
