週四喜劇夜 Thursday Comedy Night——The night with Vaudeville (讀劇演出 Play Reading Performance)
We would like to introduce you to a unique genre of theater:
It is said that in faraway Paris, there is a theatrical form loved by the citizens, known as Vaudeville. While it doesn’t have an official Chinese translation yet, we call it “French Light Comedy”.
This genre is full of Parisian flavor and has remained timeless in France’s Comédie-Française. These humorous, noisy family comedies revolve around romantic escapades, class conflicts and family squabbles, brought to life by a group of wildly talented actors.
Now, in 2024, Vaudeville has come to Taiwan!
We’ve translated it into Mandarin, English and Taiwanese, blending elements of melodrama, local TV tropes, and internet memes. Taiwanese actors will take turns performing as characters like wives, children, neighbors, mothers-in-law or valet attendants, presenting stories that may seem oddly familiar—perhaps even reminiscent of that neighbor next door…
We guarantee you’ll laugh out loud or even feel deeply seen.
