Solo Exhibition of LIN Zhu-Li

Old blankets and clothes often become fragile, torn or even moldy over time. While replacement may be necessary, it is difficult to part with items that have been such constant companions. Using a dipping technique, LIN Zhu-Li transforms the materials of these textiles without altering their original forms. Through this process, the textiles are preserved, transformed and reimagined.
As an artist, LIN draws inspiration from daily life, observing its subtleties and reflecting on the connections and meanings embedded in the objects around him. To convey these reflections, LIN employs the dipping technique to preserve the appearance of textiles, such as shower towels and old clothes. This process alters their material properties, freezing and highlighting the beauty of the textiles’ wrinkles. These items are transformed from soft to hard, from transient to eternal, and from everyday objects to ceramic artworks.
Through his artworks, LIN challenges the audience’s perceptions of everyday objects, encouraging deeper reflection. Furthermore, LIN selects black and white as the dominant colors in his works to create stark visual contrasts that emphasize texture and details. This choice enriches how textiles can be interpreted and focuses the audience’s attention on details and emotional resonance of his creations.
