Event Concept

In Taiwan, temples are not only centers of worship and places to seek blessings but also cultural and artistic sanctuaries. They can be found in bustling city districts, hidden within scenic mountains, or even as the starting point of a street filled with delicious food. Some temples have evolved into social gathering spots. Thus, planning a pilgrimage can satisfy a variety of needs, including those related to art, history, entertainment, cuisine, and spirituality. This unique journey offers an opportunity to cleanse one’s heart and mind, discovering a guiding light from deep within to reclaim confidence and original intentions.

“Travel” is more than just visiting tourist spots. It encompasses life experiences, sharing beautiful things, self-exploration, and even the realization of ideals and values.

Site Introduction

Huguo Rinzai Temple: With the mountain name Zhennan Mountain, the temple was initiated by Kodama Gentaro, the then Governor-General of Taiwan. It is the only temple in Taiwan officially named “Huguo” (Protector of the Nation). Construction began in 1900, with the beam raised in 1910, completed in 1911, and opened in 1912. It served as the root dojo for the Myoshin-ji branch of Rinzai Zen in Taiwan. In 1998, the Main Hall and Bell Tower were designated as municipal monuments. Restoration began in 2001 with the removal of the tiles, the beam was raised in 2007, and the project was completed in 2008. In 2018, 22 more sites were added, making it the largest preserved Japanese-era wooden Buddhist temple in Taiwan.

Lin An Tai Historical House is approximately 200 years old and is a finely crafted two-courtyard, five-room traditional quadrangle house. In 1978, due to not being listed as a historic site and its location within the area designated for the widening of Dunhua South Road, it faced demolition. However, thanks to the recommendations and efforts of experts and scholars, a relocation plan was established, allowing it to be moved to its current location and preserved.

In May 2000, Department of Civil Affairs, Taipei City Government meticulously planned Lin An Tai Historical House and Museum, opening it to the public for visits. In 2009, in conjunction with Taipei International Flora Expo, it became an exhibition hall and expanded its gardens.

Taipei Collectible Botanical Garden within the Flora Expo Park combines diamond-level green building standards with the expertise of top horticulturists. Focusing on humans, plants, and the environment, it showcases Taiwan’s diverse plants according to different climates and regions, creating a microcosm of Taiwan’s ecological environment. It is the only exhibition greenhouse in Taiwan that displays the most species per unit area.
