❝ Light and Shadows Revived — Restoration and Preservation Workshop Series ❞

Rediscovering fading histories.

Through digitization, meticulous restoration, and artisanal dedication, decades of cinematic memories, videotapes, and cultural artifacts are revived—bringing significant historical moments back to life.

TFAI holds a collection of about 20,000 film reels. Since the launch of its digital restoration project in 2008, 7,071 films have been digitally scanned, with 69 films restored in collaboration and 29 restored independently. Recent restorations include The Outsiders, Orphan of Asia, A Confucian Confusion, Duckweed, Grandma and Her Ghosts, and I Am a Cloud, allowing many classics to travel through time and reappear before audiences today.

To raise public awareness about the importance of preserving cultural memory, TFAI has hosted the Light and Shadows Revived—Restoration and Preservation Workshop Series since 2021. Starting from TFAI’s expertise, the workshops invite participants to experience the process of material restoration firsthand, to better understand artisanal techniques, and to rediscover precious historical archives.
