Opening a Room in Library|活著。 Being Alive.

Why does the pursuit of self-actualization often feel empty?

Are we living in reality, or are we trapped in a collective illusion?

“Being alive”—a state we experience every day yet rarely stop to truly contemplate.

When life is dictated by algorithms and existence is reduced to a carefully curated Instagram persona, is living authentically still possible? Or is it merely a series of transactions and compromises?

In this boundary-free intellectual gathering, we will deconstruct the struggles of existence and explore the questions that keep you awake at night.

We do not offer comfort zones.
We do not resolve existential crises.
We do not sell cheap hope.

Instead, we search for traces of survival between the bookshelves and glimpses of existence within the spaces between words.

When Sartre said, “Hell is other people” and Foucault asked, “What constructs our sense of self?”
How do we piece together a complete picture of existence in a fragmented reality?

Is living a performance or an act of resistance?
Is it a symbol or a practice?

Bring your questions, contradictions and uncertainties with you.

“Living is not about waiting for the storm to pass, but about learning to dance in the rain.”
—Not a quote from Ting-Ting, but it definitely sounds like something they would say.

“Life is not about waiting for the next episode to drop, but about becoming the protagonist of your own story.”

Open Space

“An Open Space, An Open Mind.”

Humans are born alone. You arrive at an unknown evening event filled with a hundred strangers yet kindred souls, engaging in a collective conversation shaped by thousands of internal dialogues. In this limitless intellectual space, thoughts merge and form an anthology of ideas.

True to its name, Open Space offers a place where every wandering soul can find a seat at the table, a chance to explore, connect and make sense of life’s dilemmas together.

Here, everyone is respected for their individuality. In an era that rushes past us, the most valuable thing is genuine, soul-deep connections and thought-provoking discussions.

In an age of constant change, where impermanence is the only certainty, developing professional skills is important—but don’t forget to strengthen your soul as well.

📌 Freedom of Movement – You can enter and exit rooms freely—stay where it resonates, leave if it doesn’t. Your thoughts deserve meaningful time.

📌 Keep It Flowing – Each discussion room lasts 50 minutes. A musical cue will play 10 minutes before the session ends. If the conversation still flows, you can move to an open area to continue.

📌 Create Your Own Room – At 20:50, the second-floor “Open Session” allows participants to propose and create new discussion rooms for shared dialogues.

📌 Mutual Respect – Every participant is a unique individual. Discussions should prioritize sharing and exploration, rather than preaching or lecturing.

Open Space的由來 The Origin of Open Space:

In 1983, Harrison Owen, the founder of the Open Space Technology, organized a 500-person conference. To his disappointment, the structured sessions failed to engage participants—but he noticed something unexpected:

During the coffee breaks, people were most engaged, lively and productive. Inspired by this observation, he designed a new meeting format that preserved the casual, dynamic and spontaneous atmosphere of a coffee break, leading to the birth of Open Space discussions.

The core of Open Space is a free-flowing intellectual environment where anyone can join or leave conversations at any time. This organic structure allows ideas to cross-pollinate, just like bees spreading knowledge across different topics.

At OTHERWISE Library, Open Space is founded on a simple belief:
“By opening up space, we open up infinite possibilities.”

Yes, there will be challenges, debates and conflicts, but your voice will be heard. In this democratic and unrestricted process, real conversations begin.
