Jewelry design is a high-value industry that can thrive with small teams, but it’s not an easy business to enter. Based on years of observation and experience, we’ve found that to establish a foothold in the industry, “aesthetic design,” “gemology” and “business model” are all essential. Taiwan has professional institutions for the first two areas, but few resources cover the business side in a systematic way. Additionally, the high costs of jewelry materials and equipment make it difficult to recover from missteps.
When viewed through a competitive lens, “business model” is a closely guarded secret among jewelers. However, with two generations of experience, we’ve found that the jewelry industry is not purely competitive—it’s a “co-opetition” industry. Jewelers often exchange market information, collaborate at international exhibitions, and sometimes lend inventory or negotiate transfers.
Seeing so many friends invest tremendous time and money only to leave the industry hurt by a lack of business skills was difficult, and as a former financial advisor, I saw it as a misallocation of valuable resources.
Now, my own jewelry brand, LUMIN GARDEN, has passed the ten-year mark and earned recognition from jewelry and art awards worldwide. I believe it’s time to share our business model and offer a resource for those eager to grow in jewelry design. I’m confident that this know-how can significantly lower entry barriers and help you avoid unsustainable risks.
In this seminar, I’ll cover the “Six Pain Points of the Jewelry Industry” and reveal “Three Common Mistakes for Beginners,” providing solutions and practical examples. I believe these insights will help you save millions in startup capital and avoid setbacks.
At the end of the event, I’ll also introduce our technology transfer services, offering an overview of essential jewelry designer skills—such as production, sales, marketing, PR, finance, law, cutting and polishing, and even wine tasting.
