Entering its 36th year, the Ming Chuan Literary Awards is branching out further by launching a new category specifically for high school students: High School Chinese Prose Division. High school students are invited to delve into creative writing and nurture their literary spirit from an early age. How will university and high school students spark new ideas in the realm of literary creation? The results are sure to be exciting!
According to the submission guidelines for the High School Prose Division of the Ming Chuan Literary Awards, entries should be prose pieces between 1,000 and 3,000 words with no set theme. Five top entries will be selected without ranking. Professor Yu Shiu-Yun, Head of Department of Applied Chinese, explains that prose is a form of writing focused on personal experience, emotions and observations, making it a perfect outlet for high school students to express their thoughts and reflections. Professor Yu encourages students to use prose as a means to present their authentic selves, noting that while students at this stage may have limited life experiences, they often possess heightened emotional awareness and sensitivity to their surroundings.
Notably, the Ming Chuan Literary Awards is one of the few university literary competitions that publishes winning entries alongside judges’ comments, providing each winner with a valuable record of their academic journey.
