The global architecture event “2024 Open House Taipei”, co-hosted by MCU, will return on November 16-17, offering 48 hours to delve into Taipei’s diverse spaces and experience the charm of urban inclusivity. Celebrating its fifth year, Open House Taipei has built on four years of public dialogue and engagement, now shaping this year’s theme, Access & Inclusion. The event transforms city spaces into “urban living rooms”, inviting people to explore and experience the inclusive design principles and to find connections with architectural spaces.

Jeanne Lee, Chief Advisor of Open House Taipei and Associate Dean of the School of Design at MCU, shared insights on the theme from an architectural perspective. This year’s inclusion theme not only opens distinctive urban spaces but also highlights the integration of land and waterways. By uncovering hidden water routes, rediscovering past water-related histories and exploring the impact of land development on water resources, the event encourages a deep, broad exploration of environmental issues. A mobile city salon will also operate a “road bus”, allowing citizens to learn about Taipei’s architectural stories as they travel.
This year, the event continues its focus on sustainability, delving further into inclusion and revealing various needs for a livable life, exploring generational, cultural, natural and ethnic integration, urban space as a public resource, and the social role of shared spaces. Eight inclusive themes are curated within three focal areas:
⌂ Inclusive Access, Experience Diverse Coexistence ⌂
➊ Confluence of Nature — Featured spaces: Lishan, Good Room & Shuanglian Great Trench
➋ Generational Playground — Featured spaces: Bethany Children’s Home, COZU Lab.
➌ Community Gathering Space — Featured spaces: Hui Guang Guide Dog School, Co-Living Experiment Base
