“Open House Worldwide” is a network composed of nearly 60 organizations that host festivals and dialogues on architecture, design, and urbanism globally, with a history spanning over 30 years. “Open House Taipei” was introduced to Taipei in 2020 and has held four editions to date, with Ming Chuan University as a co-organizer. Dr. Jeanne Lee, Curator of Ming Chuan University Arts Center Archives Hall, is also the academic initiator and chief consultant for “Open House Taipei”.
Taipei, the capital of Taiwan and one of the most densely populated cities in the world, is recognized as one of Asia’s most inclusive and diverse cities. It boasts a rich and complex history, culture, and architectural background, presenting intriguing contrasts throughout the city. This special exhibition features selected photographs of unique architectural styles from “Open House Worldwide” events around the globe, as well as remarkable records from four years of “Open House Taipei”. The aim is to provide students and faculty with a broadened perspective and new urban insights.
Additionally, the exhibition also features the cross-disciplinary illustration works of jewelry designer Charles Chen. Through sketches and hand-drawn illustrations, he captures memorable local snacks, Western pastries, family recipes, and street scenes from everyday life. By sharing these experiences through different forms of expression, he hopes to convey unique perspectives and emotions, encouraging a more open-minded and appreciative view of the beautiful aspects of life in Taiwan.
